quote:I think it's human nature to want to place blame when a young life is taken prematurely. IMO, falling out of the bed of a pick up when it's moving and you've got a broken arm is easy to imagine. Her not stopping when it happened, I can't comment on. I am sure the police will find out what she did/said afterwards. If she was hysterical and went home to mom, that's one thing. If she went to the nearest bar to brag to her friends that she gave him what he deserved, that's another. It's sad no matter how it happened and regardless of who's to blame, if anyone. I am sure the Bengals organization will have a tough time dealing with it. That's sad since they've kind of turned their team around much in the same way that people said Chris had turned his life around.
This is the case many times, but you cannot assume he is at fault until the facts are in.
RIP

Here's a high school story for ya...
I played soccer. Our practice ended the same time the guys' team did. A bunch of us decided to go Smoothie King less than half a mile from the field, so my car full of people pulled out behind 7 guys in a pickup. At the 2nd stop sign, one of the guys jumped out of the bed and ran around to the driver's side window to tell somebody something (later learned he had left something at the field - irrelevant). Anyways - after a few seconds of chitchat, driver rolls up the window, guy goes to jump back in the back but DOESN'T MAKE IT ALL THE WAY BACK IN BEFORE THE DRIVER HITS THE GAS and goes arse over teakettle right in front of me. His tailbone took the brunt of it, but he still got an egg where his head hit the ground (and I damn near hit him with my car to boot).
Sooooo - maybe my view is tempered by experience... but there are so many unknowns to the current situation, so I'll reserve my judgement.

he always kicked arse in Madden
I love how people always have to bring up Madden in real life football situations. As if it matters at all. Dont get me wrong, I play video games and Madden but I dont ever feel the need to bring up the game as if its relevent.

Bunch of people in the pickup is nowhere near the same as one person in the truck, as far as noticing it.
But, yeah, lots of unknowns so all of this is just speculation.

May he rest in peace. No reason to speculate what was going on. This is a kid who had turned the corner and what becoming a responsible adult. For some people to get on here and to speculate and find joy in this young man's death is sad and disturbing.

+10000
We've all done bad things in our past. His death has nothing to do with all that. He has family and loved ones who are in severe pain right now. To comment that "he had it coming" or anything else like that is bullshite.

what i'm saying is maybe he was in and out of the truck... she hauls arse out of a stop trying to get some distance between them and doesn't realize he made it halfway and then hit the pavement....
Or a thousand other "maybes"....
Why'd she jump in the truck when there was a limo sitting in his driveway?
ETA:
I've managed to derail myself. I just hope that if it determined she wasn't at fault, the fiancee' has the strength to clear her own conscience so she can raise the kids with good memories in her heart.

I met him once on a plane right after he was drafted, and the thing that struck me was that he was so quiet. I had heard the stories that he had a bad reputation, but it definitely did not come through the time I met him. He really seemed down to earth and humble, although he had a HUGE championship ring on his finger.
Sorry to hear the news.
RIP Chris.

Key availability perhaps.
I see what you were saying now about the in and out, but if he's chasing her I doubt she stops. I thought it looked like a curve in the road where the police were in the shots they showed on ESPN last night, so no stop sign (that was visible). And it was a good distance from the house, so it wasn't a case of falling immediately.

damn this news really sucks. i know he had plenty of issues but i still pulled for him and hoped he would turn his life around. i can't say i'm surprised in the end, but the way it happened is just bizarre.

It said he was found on a residential road, and the one from the ESPN shot looked like "that road you're on before you turn into the subdivision"... Know what I mean?
Like she had to stop before turning, hit the gas and went around the curve....
(ok... I'm logging out now

look im from belle chasse and went to school with him.... everyone knows his past history and the trouble he's been in.... in fact, according to people that i know that are close to him (his brother, cousin, and other cousin), he's been really trying hard to get his stuff together and was doing a good job of it... he was planning on getting married and settling down... its a damn shame this happened to him... R.I.P. Slim, gone too soon
