re: Belichick: Welker's Hit on Talib Deliberate

the throw at the end of the first half wasn't that wide open... there was at least one defender short, so he had to put air on it... and up against the sideline, that's an extremely difficult play to execute. CBS make it seem like he was running wide open for a TD... that just wasn't the case.

Lol at people calling that legal

It shouldn't be legal, but is. All in the name of making the NFL more like the Arena Football League. Offense sells tickets and the NFL is slowly gravitating toward a game where defense is virtually non-existent.

I think that is completely true. I don't think Welker was trying to injure Talib, but you can see he launches into him.

Really Bill? You would think he would know Welker well enough to make a fair judgement on his intent. Here's the link, judge for yourself
Pretty clear to me that he did it on purpose.

The bullshite pick plays need to be done with.

Yep. They give the offense an unfair advantage over the defense and, as we saw with Talib, lead to critical injuries.

Agreed. The broncos have the same philosphy on offense as the Seahawks do on defense with the holding/roughing of the WRs, they wont call it every play and its a low chance they ever call it so lets go all out. They arent the only teams that do it but they by far do it the most and the most blatant.
And im not even mad about it, congrats to those teams for finding a competitive advantage and exploiting it (like the Giants did in the second superbowl with the 12 man defense), but i would be in support of rule changes after the season to clamp down on both
With be interesting to see what happens in the superbowl with that dynamic

Do you have the gif? I'm not being argumentative, I actually didn't watch a large portion of the game.

Welker tried to rub him, and Talib took a step closer and Welker protected himself for the hit.
And Welker didn't even try to light him up, he tried to shield himself from taking the big hit.
Welker is taking up dome space in Bellicheats head. I wonder if his Milf gets that rent money?

none of that changes the fact that it should have been offensive PI

El.
Oh.
El.
You can see Welker launch, after taking a step to the left INTO TALIB'S PATH.

I do not, and I've been looking for a picture or video as evidence. I usually DVR the games but I wasn't home to do it yesterday. Still looking though, and I'll bring it to the board when I find one.
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie only missed a couple of plays, whereas Aquib Talib missed the rest of the game. I see both as illegal, but a penalty was not called on either, IIRC.

I never said it wasn't, it should be, but is never called, unless you playing either team.(ok, maybe not)
But Welker did not even try to light him up, he tried to protect himself when Talib took the step in.
Seriously, does Bellicheats MILF get the rent from the space Welker lives, in Bills head? He's been inside his dome, since he left.

It'll be interesting to see if the competition committee starts paying attention to these pick plays, though Belichick has used them to great effect in his career too
Posted on 1/20/14 at 12:21 pm to Jcorye1
NE and Denver have made a living off of these plays.

Yeah it is close. I am going to the give the defensive player the benefit of the doubt because welker was clearly running a pick. FWIW, I have been a Welker fan since his Tech days and I am no pats fans.

Yeah...Welker was trying to protect himself all right. Welker stepped right into the path of Talib.
