This is true. And it’s because basketball back then cared about winning and hard nose defense.

Agreed that the in stadium experience has gone to far in trying to manufacture energy. Sometimes you have to just give space to digest the game and chat with friends/family
I think everyone misses Jordan getting the ball 15 feet out and not knowing if you’d see a drive or a fadeaway jumper or… I miss mid range stuff.

This is what happens when you completely turn a league over to modern players. It’s a lazy game with rules and practices that allow players to take off whenever they want, play and make whatever they want and not have to earn a thing. There has to be stakes for there to be drama so there can be interest. The players risk nothing on the court so who’s going to care?

Shrinking the rim size makes the most sense to me.
I still won’t watch though.

2s worth 3 points. 3pointers worth just 2

Maybe this year, but I watched a lot of Sga last year and I can definitely tell you it was not enjoyable.
You are wrong and listened to bad accounts.
This season Shai has a lower Free Throw Rate than
Embiid’s MVP season
Giannis’ MVP seasons
Harden’s MVP season
Brodie’s MVP season
KD’s MVP season
Bron’s MVP seasons
Kobe’s MVP season
Dirk’s MVP season
AI’s MVP season
Shaq, Malone, 3 of Jordan’s MVPs. U get it.
And last year was similar. And another note he gets most of his points driving the ball which means should have more fouls than others who shoot so many 3’s. I posted other stats earlier.
And stars usually get more calls on average. If you look at team stats OKC has more fouls called on them in way more games than opponents. Its a running joke. Last night the fouls were even at 17 each but if you factor in intentional fouls by NY at end OKC was called for more fouls again.

I have 0 idea what is going on in the NBA and usually get mad if it ends up in one of my feeds.

NBA talk at work disappeared in the 2000s....Shaq/Kobe was the last time I can remember anyone bringing it up.
Now it would be a conversation non-starter if someone brought it up.
It's like the sport doesn't exist for middle-aged white guys (majority of the population).

how is the NBA failing? they just signed a $76 billion dollar tv deal and set record attendance 2 years in a row.
maybe you are just getting old and the things that used to appeal to you dont anymore?
people under 45 cut cable subscriptions, everything is streaming now. cable companies know this, why do you think they are willing to pay so much for a bigger piece of a smaller pie?

except for the 3 lebron threads we get on here every time he posts a tweet.
Kawhi and Derrick Rose were both in the top 15 trending topics today on X, Rose hasn't played a game this year and Kawhi played his first game of the year.
if you weren't aware then maybe the game has just passed you by, the league is making more money than it ever has.

I want to like the league. I really do.
I’ll still watch football despite the emphasis on offense and the BS going on in college.
I still watch baseball as it tries to navigate through the limited outcome ABs.
I can’t watch the NBA outside of my team, and even then it feels like a chore sometimes. I don’t watch college until March madness. I’d rather watch some shite on Netflix or reruns of Seinfeld.
-gameplay sucks
-marketing players when they move around too much sucks
-load management sucks
-regular season has been completely de-emphasized

i agree with both of these but is it really that much worse than it was historically or is it just discussed more?
The Kings have played 35 games this year, De'Aaron Fox is averaging 37 minutes and has started 35 games.
Anthony Edwards has played all 34 games and is averaging 36 minutes a game. he would probably average 38 minutes a game if he didn't sit out the 4th quarter of blowouts.
Lebron has played 31 of 34 games this year and is averaging 35 minutes per game. He's 40 years old.
Minutes being down is also a symptom of bench players not being as bad as they were historically so it doesn't hurt you as much to rest starters.
Embiid has missed a ton of games but isn't that expected from someone that has been dealing with a ton of injuries?

Of course you’d deflect. Why do you think NBA media and its commissioner are going around in the press telling people they know it’s a bad product and they’re going to make changes? Because of the purchase.

you do realize the weekly ratings change week to week depending on what else is going on in the world and what else is on tv right ?the ratings being down during an election year is pretty standard for november.
just last week they reported Christmas Day viewership was the highest in 5 years.

if you think signing an 11 year TV deal worth $76 billion that starts next year means the NBA is failing, it seems you are just wishcasting.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ 115-113 victory over the Golden State Warriors – which featured a thrilling duel between LeBron James and Stephen Curry – led the way averaging 7.76 million viewers and peaking with 8.32 million viewers at 10:30 p.m. ET. It was the most-watched NBA regular season and Christmas Day game in five years and up 499% vs. the comparable window last year.

As usual, just ignore what you don’t like then post incomplete, misleading and false information. Typical you to ignore the 28% drop in viewership since just last season and a 48% drop over the last decade+. Again their own people, up to Silver himself are now admitting it and promising changes. Your position is always the same regardless of fact, appeal to authority and corporate simping.

yeah, cable tv viewership and all live television viewership has dropped more than that over the past decade, I'm not sure how you missed that.
that's part of the reason live sports rights have gotten more and more expensive.

meanwhile the NBA streaming platform keeps breaking records and their TV rights keep getting more expensive
