Baseball trivia question pre-steroid era

Without looking, who was the last person to hit 50 or more home runs before the 1990s steroid era?

Edited: To be more specific since widespread steroids started at least in at the beginning of the 1990s, the question should be prior to 1990. And when was that?

He was actually during that era. But that is arguable because that is about when it began. He actually hit 50. The answer is below your first response.

Willie Mays in 65 then Cecil Fielder in 91. That was a long span. Fielder seemed fatter than most steroids guys.

ETA; Foster did hit 52 in 77, for some reason I missed that, really ironic since I recall the season and was a big red machine fan.
