MLB caliber middle infielders and centerfielders are better overall athletes than NBA guys.

The frick?

NBA guys don’t even know how to throw a fricking baseball.

Skill, not an athletic trait.

What do you suppose an elite middle infielder would shoot from 3 in the NBA? Unless they're shooting from Steph Curry range, they may not get a shot off.

There’s also a handful of running backs that could run point with ease.

a. Then they'd be playing point

b. How many 6-2+ RBs are there in the NFL to do this? You think Derrick Henry is going to run point?

The game itself probably. Going through training camp and etc is the hard part

I don't even think an NBA player would be effective as a WR as they'd be matched up against pure cover guys that can blanket them.

There is a sizeable population that could IF they trained and were given time to do so.

On the flip side, there are almost no NFL players who could play in the NBA.

Like I said earlier, the conversation is about the size of the populations of each that could even theoretically translate. The NBA has a much bigger population that could, which means naturally they would produce more NFL players ultimately.

I'm making up the actual numbers, but I'm just phrasing this in another way with hypothetical set numbers to show the argument in a different way: there are 100 NBA players who meet the physical limitations/athletic ability to play in the NFL. There are 10 NFL players who meet the physical limitations/athletic ability to play in the NBA.

From a total number of players standpoint, you can be the 1000th best football player in the world and have a steady NFL job. If you are the 1000th best basketball player, you'll never sniff the NBA. And then add in that there are multiples more kids playing basketball in the world than football as kids.

The game is that dead, that sub 6”2 can’t run point? Is that what you are saying?

Agree 100%.

There's likely a decent amount of guys in the NBA that could be effective in the NFL lining up at TE and running short or intermediate routes against linebackers and safeties.

He's saying nobody in the NFL has the handles or jump shot to play in the NBA. Aside from that, a musclebound NFL body doesn't really translate to the NBA either.

I’ve heard from several people of different colleges that football team players beat basketball team players in a pickup game of basketball quite often.
I’d bet money on nfl players are better in nba than nba to nfl.

Why would this be saying the game is dead?

With how defense is played now, it's just really, really hard for anyone under 6-2 to make an impact offensively, and they are typically liabilities on defense.

There are a few NBA players that would transition well to football, mostly the shooting guards and Small Forwards

I would say point guard the position that translates the most... in reality most of the guys over 6'6 in the NBA would be offensive linemen or defensive ends in the NFL... they would have been training their bodies to gain and hold weight since high school.... the obvious football positions that translate or WR/DE

Rivers responds

Been just sitting back listening to the chatter. But I can’t help myself sometimes lol. James Jones…( the packer guy) I have never heard of you. But listen here ya little meat head…fall back lol. Talking about “you barely made it in the nba”??…bro I was lottery pick who has already played 11 years. You played 8/9 seasons in the NFL . Make it make sense. By your own logic you really barely made it ?????. You sound salty.
Beat it.

Ok… name me 5 players from the nba that could make it through training camp and then be picked to a roster… the physical toll on them would be terrible. I doubt any of the 5 would make it past 10 days… it’s a totally different animal….

In Todays game?

Anthony Edwards-WR or Safety
Zion Williamson- TE/DE
DeArron Fox- WR
Ja Morant- WR
Scoot Henderson -WR/DB

Bonus
Donovan Mitchell- WR/DB

I think 30 is far fetched, but its definitely an easier transition to go from basketball to football. Foot work and speed is there, just need to bulk up a little. The physicality of football is rapidly declining. Body weight on QB rule, hip drop tackle thing etc.

I played against Odell Beckham in basketball when he was at Newman. while he was a great athlete, he was very average basketball player. Our group of all white kids beat them.

He can’t make it through an NBA season and you think he can make it through NFL training camp and preseason?
