Solers is as iconic or more iconic that Pujols shot off Lidge in the playoffs

Pujols' was good because it brought them back from the brink in that game, but then they still had to go and play Games 6 (STL loss) and 7 (STL Win).

Soler decimated and disenfranchised the Astros. They had to still play 6 or so innings, but they all knew they were dead in the water and the year was over. With how Fried bounced back from the ankle stomp they were fricked and their only chance at extending the series was by scratching out a 1-0 game.

As soon as Soler sent that into Orbit they knew it was over.

Edit: Point still stands, but I was wrong about the specifics on the Astros/Cardinals in 05

I understand the strategic thinking, but I fricking hate pulling a pitcher who could easily toss a maddux

Pujols' HR took Brad Lidge's career with it, but the Astros wiped the floor with them in STL to win the series in the next game.

I could be wrong, but I thought Pujols' HR was off Lidge in the NLCS, the Astros still won the NLCS and then were swept by the White Sox in the WS.

Lidge pitched like shite for the rest of that postseason and even the next season sucked.

He did bounce back a few years after that with the Phillies tho.

Oh yes, I was turned around on my years. I thought it was '04 when the Cardinals went to the WS.

Looks like the Braves know Yates needs the work. He’s been pretty bad. Had high hopes he was going to slide into a top 4-5 role in the bullpen and push some other guys to purely junk innings roles. Nope.

He started out fine, but has looked rough since his 2nd appearance.

You guys need to remember that Yates has had essentially the better part of the last 2 years off due to injury. There will be an adjustment period.

They would have to make up a fake injury to send him down.

He already had his rehab assignment.

Frankly, games/situations like today are what he needs to be in to get his footing. Pitching to AAA/AAAA hitters at Gwinnett will accomplish nothing.

Patience is lost these days.

How many “games like these” do you anticipate us having down the stretch?

Patience goes out the window in a pennant race. I get both sides of the argument. I think the best solution right now is to give him as many low leverage innings as possible to help him get back in game shape.

You said this about Pache and Ozuna. I’m not saying you’re right about Yates or not but it’s been obvious for a while that you think every player and prospect we have is amazing and that anyone who doesn’t think so doesn’t understand baseball.

Matzek's velo was up today.

That's something to monitor going forward.
