They're really going to call this a double play? The fricker signaled out. What are the runners supposed to do?

Umpire signaled out. You can’t “unring” the bell.

They're catching fire, which is not ideal.

We need a clarification from Steelers...I believe he's a umpire.

Per the rules it's a garbage call.

Asking an umpire to admit that an umpire made a wrong call is a pipe dream. Baseball umpires have zero accountability when they screw up unless they own up to it on their own accord like Jim Joyce did.

Love the thought of the cameraman having to pan the crowd for a few innings to find a group of black folks so the broadcast can run the HBCU promo lol

I’ve umpired travel baseball and softball. He made a motion that negatively effected the runners. He has to eat that call.

Same as if a umpire yells foul ball on a fair ball. Outside of the MLB ability to replay, you can’t then call it fair. You’ve killed play by verbalizing foul.

It was ruled out by the transfer rule. He had taken a couple of steps and was in the process of taking the ball out of the glove. By rule it was the right call.

You don't see it a lot but it does happen.

I didn't see it that way, but I'll watch it again and see if maybe I missed something.

On one of the replays you see the third base umpire signal out.

Wasn’t it ruled no catch and the runners were thrown out going to second and third?

If he signaled out though they can sell that it was due to the transfer rule, which is what I think they ultimately ruled.

It's not unlike a catch/no catch in football, you just don't see it a lot im baseball.

Except that that wasn't what he called. He had it right, and then he changed his mind. The runners then got caught up because of it. If he stays with the out call, nobody gets doubled off.
