AA said on MLB Network radio they have about the same amount to spend as they did last year at the deadline.

Their starting pitching is better than ours

I don't think this is true, because....

when DeGrom gets back they will be hard to overtake

deGrom will always be injured as long as he throws max effort on every pitch.

Trying to strike this lineup out is not a good idea.

With everyone healthy this mets line up still isnt even top 15 or even 20 almost. It’s just not even remotely good by any measure or statistic. Braves starting pitching has just sucked more.

mets team average is 4th best in the majors and team OPS is 10th. might not be dominant but they have 3 all stars and that’s not counting Lindor or Nimmo who are both good offensive players

simply wrong, they dont hit the long ball but the average, runs scored and hitting with risp were tops in all of baseball for most of the season until the recent rough patch

Isn’t the Mets DH spot OPSing around .500 when Alonso isn’t occupying it?

And catcher production isn’t much better I don’t believe.

I’m thankful for this series. We’re seeing some of our weaknesses, and will hopefully make moves to strengthen them.

But the Mets are third in the league in OBP behind only the Dodgers and Yankees. It's a very different lineup construction than the Braves' (Mets are definitely seeing a lot of pitches and prioritizing contact)

And, yeah, with no Marte or McNeil it looks a lot worse. Jankowski is one of the worst hitters I've ever seen

Yeah as long as one team doesn’t get swept a July series is not a huge deal. Braves starting pitching was disappointing but you have to credit the Mets for grinding the hell out of their ABs. Nimmo set the tone with the first AB of the series.

Assuming today’s result holds were right back where we were Sunday morning.

Take care of the Nats this weekend and get ready for the second half.

Dom has been brutal. JD has been a bit better but hasn't been hitting for power.

Catcher is a black hole, yeah. I've just come to accept that

DH is definitely the spot we need to upgrade

Nimmo
Marte
Lindor
Alonso
McNeil
Canha

Those guys are all proven vets. The lowest career OBP among those guys is Lindor at .341

Preferably we should have one more power bat (and hopefully Escobar gets out of this funk and produces some power as well) but it's a competent lineup that will produce a lot of baserunners

Lindor and Alonso are the only guys on that list who scare me. The rest are annoying pests who BABIP their way on base. That soft contact stuff just doesn't seem sustainable for a full season, but maybe it will be.

It will be an interesting case study to see if a team that’s built like this can win against good pitching in a short series. You would have to think at least 1-2 guys who can really punish mistakes will need to be added. But can you just scratch, claw, slap your way on base enough to produce runs in October with guys like Nimmo and Guillorme and even Canha? It will be interesting to watch.

Nimmo, Canha, and McNeil may be more "pesky" than "scary" hitters but I mean they're all really good

McNeil has a career 127 wRC+ in 1741 PA

Marte has a 119 wRC+ in 5084 PA

Nimmo is 133 in 2047 PA

Canha is 116 in 2782 PA

Why wouldn't that be sustainable? These are guys that have always produced a lot of "soft contact" and yet are simply damn good hitters

Error and a balk to gift Mets a couple runs. Oh well, sweep the Nats again and get to the break. Gotta remember that even if they lose this series the Braves have taken this lead from 10.5 to 2.5 in short order. Obviously going to be a battle to the end.

I do agree that this Mets team needs one more power bat. I wish we'd call up Vientos and give him a shot at DH for a bit -- he might strike out a ton but he's got 70+ grade power and we might catch lightning in a bottle before the league figures him out
