No way you send Strider to the pen.
I think it's gonna happen eventually. Like Pocket said, he's never pitched more than 94 innings in his career and they probably don't wanna put too much stress on his arm by leaving him in the rotation.

My assumption has been that he will be on an innings limit. But I think it was Nick Green who said the other day that the Braves are saying that right now there is no limit, but that they will "monitor his stress" or something like that. It sounded like coach speak, to me. I think they have a number they won't want him to exceed, but I don't know what that number is.
Personally, I think it's time we stop with the babying of pitchers after injuries, or when they are coming up through the system. There is overwhelming evidence that it isn't working. Injuries either happen or they don't. Poor mechanics, and overthrowing are usually culprits. Strider is pretty smooth in his delivery, and he doesn't overthrow.
I guess we'll all find out what they do.

If he continues putting together starts like he has the last month and his velo stays in the high 90's/100's, I don't see how you justify a shutdown.

The Nats decided to get cute and shutdown Strasburg before the postseason and he still ended up getting hurt multiple times down the road. If you have a guy dealing you just have to roll with it and take advantage this year.

He was never the same after that, either.

Anderson would be odd man out but all 5 guys are better than Soroka right now so who knows how good he will be.

I mean, if Soroka comes back and is 80% as good as he was pre injury, he's better than both Anderson and Morton.

The conversation is moot anyway. Soroka is going to trip over a rat terrier and tear his ACL before the week is out.

Morton has been a top 5 pitcher the last month. I think they probably go to a 6 man rotation when Soroka is ready if everyone else is healthy and then eventually Strider goes to the pen.

Anderson, yes. Not Morty. It will be good to see him start rehab and how that goes

Strider can be ultra valuable out of the pen in the playoffs. Being able to pick and choose exactly the spots he gets is huge. Matzek and Minter were more valuable for us last year than any starter in the playoffs. Whether you use him as a multi inning guy or as a max effort super high leverage guy or a combo I think that’s the play. I think he and Minter could be the two guys who get the very highest leverage spots.

I do agree he has elite closer stuff but I just can't see how you take him out of the rotation. He's one of the better starters.

You're forgetting how good Soroka was... if he is 80% of that, yes he will be better than Morton.

If he's one of our 3 best starters by season's end, I want him in the postseason rotation.
I understand the merit of having that silver bullet in the bullpen, but that can also lead to underuse in a series as well like what happened with Fried in the 2019 NLDS. He was our 2nd best starter that season, but instead we went in with a Kuechel/Folty/Soroka rotation.
Man, I had blocked out how much Snit really fricked that rotation up until just now, not only pushing Fried to the pen, but having Soroka go game 3, guaranteeing that he only starts one game, while Kuechel and Folty vomited all over themselves (minus Folty in game 2).

Folty/Fried in Game 2
That curveball was working OT

That's how I feel about it. There is no science behind what teams have been doing. They tried it, and it just hasn't been effective. Let the pitcher's body tell you what to do.

Waters is being traded.

Passan: Atlanta and Kansas City are finalizing a trade that will send center-field prospect Drew Waters, right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Hoffmann and a third minor leaguer to the Royals for the 35th pick in Sunday's draft, which has a $2.2 million slot value, sources tell ESPN.

Hoffmann is the bigger loss.

Waters is a borderline 40+/45 FV in Triple-A that may just need a change of scenery. Hoffman is a later-developing backend type that’s a 40 FV. I have 45 FV prospects from 13th through my 47th ranked prospect for this year’s draft:

I remember running some numbers on Waters a while ago and found that the only guy who'd ever really K'd as much as he did and had a decent career was Joey Gallo .. who is like 80 power.
