I don’t know Marquez, but I don’t think there’s any chance of this being legit. Maybe if we could attach Ozuna and his terrible contract, it might make a tiny bit of sense. But we need TDA for his bat, leadership, and to spell Murphy. And we need a big year from Soroka (even if it just means he winds up as a backend rotation guy at some point.

Tell me about his tremendous upside as a shortstop.

Rosario/Ozuna is certainly serviceable as well with an opportunity to ride a hot hand.

This some true head in the sand stuff here.

You’re right. I give up. We should have paid some outside guy twice as much as we are paying any member of the core of our team.

Our “fans” are the fricking worst.

Never said that. But our big trade probably should've addressed a need.

Yeah, and the gatekeeping is the worst part of it. Heaven forbid someone question what we're doing this offseason.

But back to the question at hand. Tell me about Vaughn's tremendous upside at SS. Had you said LF, I'd be more inclined to agree with you.

It’s amazing that there are “fans” that complain about 2 potential holes. We have 6 above average starters locked up until 2026. This is a top 5 roster right now. Every team will have a weakness.

But we added a weakness this offseason.

SS went from strength to biggest question mark. Like that's not even up for debate.

The two easiest questions to ask about this offseason (so far) is did we get better or worse as a team? And did our direct competitors (Phillies/Mets) get better or worse as a team?

For me, so far this offseason, we've gotten worse as a team... still good mind you.

As for the Phillies/Mets, I think the Mets got better with their pitching staff and the Phillies got better with the Trea Turner move.

It's a cause for concern. Does that mean I don't think we can win the East or the World Series? Of course it doesn't. But our margin for error (injuries/slumps) has gotten smaller so far this offseason.

So you don't think the Braves are winning the World Series this year then.

I never said anything about the winning the WS. We both know that the hot team more often than not wins it or at least gets there(Philly) more than the best team winning it. Though Houston was the best team all season and they did win it all.

Do you think the Braves got better this offseason?

No. But the onus to improve is on PHI and the Mets to catch the Braves. We'll see if their money will be well spent or not.

Ehhh, the Phillies dominated us in the playoffs and made the World Series. I think we need to catch up to them as much as they need to catch up to us. And they responded by signing a noted Braves murderer.

The Mets finished tied with us and responded by bringing in a Cy Young winner.

ETA: As for my question about winning the World Series, isn't that what this should all be about now? Like our window is now, especially with Fried still under contract before we let him walk.

The Phillies/Mets also signed those players to ridiculous contracts. I’m fine with a downgrade at SS to not sign a bad contract.

From the Mets perspective that doesn't really matter. MLB literally created a new Lux Tax penalty for Steve Cohen last year and he made sure to pass that this year.

They may as well be operating with unlimited funds. Just this offseason, they've eclipse $700m when you include the tax penalties.

Not sure how many times this has to be said, but no one on here is saying we should've signed Dansby to that. Just would've been nice to trade for a SS or LF when we scraped the last pieces of our farm, instead of for a position where we were already set for the next 2-3 years.

Also, I never want us to be giving out ridiculous contracts, but it'd be nice if we spent more than $2.4m in the offseason. Especially after the organization wanted everyone to know how much the Battery was making this past year.

Utilityman Brandon Drury and the Los Angeles Angels are in agreement on a two-year, $17 million contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Drury, 30, won the Silver Slugger at the utility position last year and is the third bat the Angels have acquired this winter.

frick, was hoping we could've signed him for LF... and $8.5m AAV is cheap.

What about Jurickson Profar? Plays 2B, SS, and LF. Seems like he’d be a good fit for what we’re looking for.

I'd take him over Jordan Luplow, but I wouldn't pay him as much as the Angels paid for Drury.

Could probably sign him to a 1 yr deal and see how he performs. Just looking at what else is out there and he seems like a decent option.

If this is considered too much to spend on a solid position player like Drury, I don’t know, man. Charlie Morton is worth $20MM a year to AA. The man uses some weird calculus at times.

If we're talking about him as a potential SS, I'd rather take the lumps with Grissom and hope something amazing happens, but I'd definitely kick the tires on him in LF.

The A's signed a dude today to a 1yr/$3m and with that one deal, passed us up on money spent this offseason.

Let that sink in for a second.

Not sure what we're waiting on, all the big names are gone, so it's not like there are anymore deals out there that would change up the market and allow us to get a cheaper deal on a player.

The window is closed as far as I’m concerned. You don’t let two core pieces go to other teams and still claim to be in a window. When has two of the biggest stars on a team left in the middle of a so called window and the team just continued on and won or even went to another World Series?

I wouldn't go that far. I mean, we won a World Series with an outfield of Rosario/Duvall/Pederson and Will Smith as our closer. Weird shite happens.

But it does feel like we're making moves just to make sure that we stay in the playoff hunt for the next 5-6 years when we could've been making moves to win another World Series within the next 2-3 years when we had the young talent and veteran leadership in place to really make an Astros like run. Instead, we're just handing the keys to our young talent and hoping they can figure out how to get another ring before some other team offers them their second contract, because it won't be coming from us.
