given how absolutely stupid the FA market has been this year, and the fact that dansby was hyped by the baseball media as being in the same league as trea, correa, and xander, what are the odds of dansby signing for less than what we gave olson? less than we gave riley? People melting that we haven't already brought him back ignore that he is going to receive an absolutely horrible deal.

Please point out the posts that are "melting" over Dansby.

Again, no one is saying sign Dansby to a Trea Turner deal.

well, there's a post in this thread from earlier today saying the braves are unlikely to make the playoffs because we haven't addressed ss. That seems like a pretty dansby related melt, considering we bring back damn near everyone else from a team that was historically great once we got our current starters in place

Holy hyperbole batman.

It was a very good team. But a team that got worked in the NLDS by a division rival is not historically great.

Sure there were some metrics where we were on a record pace. But there were also some metrics that showed we were pretty terrible with (a lot of them revolve around strikeouts).

This team is a playoff contender, not sure they'd be among the top 3 in the NL to make the world series right now though.

Mets just signed Kodai Senga.

They lost deGrom and may have ended up improving their rotation in the process with Verlander and Senga taking deGrom and Walker's spots.

ETA: frick, I forgot they got Quintana too.

We're the only team in the National League that doesn't have a prospect in the MLB top 100.

ETA: LOL, I take that back, we're the only team in all of MLB to not have a prospect in the top 100.

Kind of a weird flex because we were also the only team in the mlb with ROY and runner up. When you graduate 4 people to your main roster (in one season with Harris, Contreras, Strider, Grissom) that are all star caliber, your farm system is likely to take a hit.

Not a flex, just pointing out that we're not going to be able to make many good moves through trades. We're in win-now mode.

We have half the damn team locked up for >5 years with the exception of Fried and obviously Swanson. They are in likely a 7 year window. Tough to call that a win now time frame. The worse thing that can happen would be to overspend. Trades will have to come from Major league depth (Grissom, SP, C). This team is still really good. Just needs to find an answer at SS (I’m leaning more and more away from the Swanson camp) and maybe LF

Spending =/= overspending

Sure, never said they are not, but if you haven't figured it out yet, the NL East became an arms race. The Phillies and Mets have gotten better this offseason, we haven't yet.

Still a lot of time left, but we have to make moves in the FA market, because we don't really have the pieces to make a trade. We have Muller and maybe Shuster in our farm that could fetch something and then we have Grissom in the Majors as the only good piece we could potentially part with.

Correa will likely cost more than Dansby

But he’s worth more than Dansby.
But I think there’s no way we sign him. And I don’t think we have enough trade bait to get anyone else. It’s either Dansby take a nice discount or we’re rolling with Arcia.
I think Dansby ends up with the Dodgers. He’ll end up with some back loaded deal like Freddie that ends up not being much more than the Braves offered. But it’ll sound better.
Surprised we’re not hearing more rumors about that.

My point is that we're not going to be paying that if we're not going to be paying Dansby.

If it's not taking a discount to stay home with us, he's going to be a Cub so he and Mal can become Chicago's sports power couple.

I thought I read somewhere that she was a FA after this year. You may be right but the Cubs are not simply a shortstop away from competing. Don’t know why they’d spend the money on him when they need so much more. Unless they plan on opening the pocketbooks over the next couple of years to buy all the big FAs.

IMO, the pitchers on the farm who would other teams would really want are Smith-Shawver and Schwellenbach. If the Braves go big game hunting via trade, one of those two will probably be involved.

Very curious move.

We're either about to trade/release Pina or make a fairly big trade with TDA as the centerpiece. This is a move before a move considering we already have 3 MLB catchers on the roster.

Also interested to see what we gave up.
