Every team in this day and age has a model that projects value, wins / $ etc.

Obviously Zips isn’t perfect and obviously every team has their own numbers on guys, but the zips projections on these guys over the next 5 seasons are

Olson
2023 4.6
2024 4.2
2025 3.6
2026 3.0
2027 2.1

Freeman
2023 4.9
2024 4.1
2025 3.3
2026 1.5
2027 0.5

So they have Olson falling off a cliff after he hits 30?

I don't think that happens.

Just to be clear though, I agree we should have signed Freddie simply because of the value of the prospects alone. We could have fixed our gigantic LF hole with those prospects.

Or SS because we wouldn't have had to trade for Murphy if we kept Shea.

Ideally yeah, but I didn't really see SS as a trade hole to fill simply because I don't know of any realistic SS that we could have traded for with our prospects.

We wouldn't have enough to get Adames even if the Brewers were willing. We could probably have swung Rosario, but he's only a two WAR player and in his free agent year anyway.

The truth of the matter is SS just slim pickings.

Big drop at 33 which there is precedence for for non HOF level players. 35 has been the magic number for the elite guys.

Now, I agree Freddie is the better player and likely will be for the next couple of seasons. But I do think there are quite a few orgs who would definitely choose the $8M AAV discount for a guy who is in a much safer area on the aging curve.

With the entire situation factored in I think the Braves would have been better off just paying Freddie, but value wise (contract and player only) I think there’s a pretty easy argument to be made for Olson for a lot of teams.

Probably less than 10 teams in the sport who would sign up for $26M AAV for a 1B in his age 35 and 36 season.

Uncle Steve will sign Freddie as bat boy when he’s 39 for the Atlanta series for 2 million

I think they would if they get MVP level production 31-34.

Have to look at the overall picture. And even at 35 and 36, Freddie is still going to be hitting at a decent clip.

The Braves as an organization (BOS, MIL, ATL) have 4 WS titles('1914, '57, '95 & '21) and have been to 10 World Series. So they have twice as many titles and have been to 7 more WS.

Him playing in the WBC was a blessing. He got his usual slow start out of the way already.

Thank God. He ain't even worth the breath to respond to.
I know I haven't always endeared myself on here and that's on me and my mouth getting me in trouble(and it will again), but I would never stoop that low to involve someone's family let alone someone's kid. That's just low-life shite.
