Really ? I'm sure the Astros wouldn't be disappointed if the Phils made the package around Singleton. That's at least what I would want if I were the Astros. If the Phillies said no dice, then oh well.
Phils obviously can't trade Brown because of Ibanez.

The Astros wont trade Pence unless they are just blown away. There will be a team willing to give up the future to win now with Pence. The window only stays open for so long.

The Braves window is nowhere close to closing, which is why they would be dumb to trade an A prospect for Hunter Pence.

Agreed. I don't think that team will be the Braves.

For Pence, allegedly the Astros want Brown AND possibly Cosart
Melky C. is more likely, and cheaper than Beltran.
All depends on if they're willing to deal the young star prospects (pitchers), based on what ive seen today.

We will be shocked with what we get for Pence. One way or the other.

I get the feeling that Astros fans greatly overvalue Hunter Pence. He isn't worth a top 5 prospect. If that's what they want for him, then they must really want to hang on to him because no one is going to give them anything close to that.
For a World Series contender, it is actually worth it. IMO, Pence is the missing piece to the puzzle. I made a compelling argument one night, but some Braves fans rejected it saying that Bourn would be better for the team.

Man demanding top dollar for sure. But, like I said I just don't see how the Phils can part with Brown. Someone has to play LF starting next year.

Link to said argument.

The only thing I want to change from that is that Pence would be more expensive than Bourn, but worth the difference.
ETA: I honestly expect to you to reject it as well because it includes starting McLouth and benching Chipper, which is kind of like mutiny, but I think that it would be the winningest formula.

Not what I would call compelling. I feel that Bourn's speed is what this team does not have and that is the missing piece.
Posted on 7/20/11 at 11:15 pm to lsu31always
That is what I said that you would not like it because you would think that Bourn is the missing piece. For some reason, Braves fans are affixed on a leadoff centerfielder with speed. What is wrong with a middle of the order bat?

Nothing wrong with a middle of the order bat.

Nothing, but we don't really need one. We need a leadoff hitter and more consistent bats for the 7 and 8 holes.

I guess here is where I differed from the Braves fans in this thread.
They wanted:
Bourn
Prado
at the top, but I like Prado and Heyward hitting in the top two (even though they are having down years so far). However, I have been impressed by Bourn's increase in OBP, but I think that he will regress some.
Just a different view on this, but I think we can all agree that Teheran is a must keep.

C - McCann - Nuff Said
1B - Freeman - Whose awesome? Freddie is.
2B - Uggla - Starting to come around
3B - Chip - yea fufck off here
SS - Gonzo - 2nd weakest link in the line-up, but he brings an excellent glove.
LF - Prado - Hand bag
CF - Schafer/Nate -
RF - Say Hey - SAY HEY

Agree with all of those.
I told that you would not like me saying it about benching Chipper, but I think Prado should play third and put Pence in left.
McLouth is definitely better than Schafer. Fredi is being retarded on this one, IMO.
Agree to disagree, but I think that Pence, not Bourn is the one that could close the small gap between Philly and Atlanta.

Must not have seen tonight's game.

I may be wrong on this but I dong feel like looking up stats. I believe the Braves are a top 3-5 NL teams in homeruns and are dead last in stolen bases. I do agree with Braves fans that Bourn would be a better fit for the this team.

One game sample size. Irrelevant, unless there was a major injury.

I know the Braves do not swipe bags, but they do not need to. This is the point of what I am saying. Pence would be an upgrade to an already good club by bolstering their strengths. Bourn would be changing the dynamics of the club, which I am not sure about. What is Fredi's opinion on stealing? It seems like he is not really a fan whether or not the Braves have the guys to steal at this point.
