He announced it in a column in the Sunday newspaper, writing, “I’ve got Parkinson’s, and it hurts to even say it.

quote:

“I’m still mobile, still active, I don’t have the trademark tremors that distinguish the famously afflicted Michael J. Fox or the late Muhammad Ali but, damn it, I’ve got it.”

quote:

The column is as much an ode to the staff and compatriots at Kaizen as a diary entry about his experience with the disease.

Writes Plaschke: “Until now, my condition has only been known to my family. Not even my bosses knew. I didn’t look like Parky, I didn’t act like Parky, so why should I publicly reveal something so personal and embarrassing?

When Plaschke and the other seniors at Kaizen lace up boxing gloves to get a workout in, they are punching Parkinson’s the face as much as the dummies they train on. Plaschke hopes to keep fighting and doing what he loves as a columnist for the Times.

“Blowhard” is far more appropriate than “legend”, but congrats to him and his family I guess

He’s still a narcissist twat in the revelation itself

It's really not that big of a deal unless you get it as young as MJF. There are worse diagnoses. Attention whore with that statement.

I feel guilty for not having more empathy for the dude. He always came across as a smug west coast a-hole to me.

As someone who was diagnosed around same age as MJF but also treat patients with PD of all ages, i can say it is very misguided to think it’s not a big deal. It’s a horrible disease at all ages

“Calm down snowflake, at least it’s not as bad as Pancreatic Cancer or ALS” isn’t quite the pitch you think it is.

As much of a smuck as he was, I'm not sorry that I don't feel for him. Call me what you want, but I don't have to have sympathy for classless people. His obnoxious left wing takes on sports aggravated me to no end.
