Are we still laughing at the TWolves for the Rudy Gobert trade?

People were calling it the worst trade in NBA history. Now Minnesota is 14-4, Gobert is the front runner for DPOY, and the Jazz suck arse. Late first round picks in the NBA are pretty much worthless.

Twolves make it to round 2 at best
KAT still soft
KAT still soft

Gobert's playoff contributions are still a question and Walker Kessler will be better than him in like 3 years.
Gobert and Kessler were late 1st round picks.

KAT is like the fourth most important player on the team now. And they have one of the best young emerging stars in the league
They’ve played tough teams and beaten them. Top defense in the league. McDaniels gets hurt and their defense is still great. Edwards gets hurt and they still beat OKC.
Multiple major injuries and they fall apart, but that’s true of any team. The Timberwolves are legit contenders right now

Every time I see his name I get enraged remembering how he started the Covid hysteria acting like a moron.

Sounds like you actually watch the wolves. Ppl who are still spouting off the same takes of KAT soft, or gobert will get played off the court haven’t watched them play and likely don’t actually follow the nba
A lot of casuals don’t even know Jaden even though he’s one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. And they don’t realize that ant has taken the leap and is a budding superstar
This team is legit good and will make some noise in the playoffs if they stay healthy

A-Rod has lowkey been one of the best owners in the NBA since he's taken over.

He said pretty much, not always.
Shouting out cam Thomas or Jokic as examples of good late picks is like comparing 5 star highschool players to 2-3 star players and saying “what about Jacob Hester or Dak Prescott “
A top 5 pick is exponentially more valuable than a 20-30 pick

Yes, but the laughter is definitely more stifled than it was before. It'll stop completely if they prove themselves in the playoffs.

A tip of the cap to you for having the most random pairing of teams ever haha

I wouldn't say worthless. In terms of talent, since they're only two rounds, the late first round in the NBA is more like the late 3rd/early 4th rounds in the NFL. You can still find productive players at that point in the draft.

It was never about Gobert the player, it was always about the insane price they paid to get him.
That price is still insane and always will be, so yes, we should still chuckle.

uh...yeah.
They are paying a center who has never done well in the playoffs and has zero offensive game outside of putbacks and alleyoops FORTY+ frickING MILLION DOLLARS for the next 3 years.
Gobert DRTG regular season vs playoffs:
2023: 102 vs 117
2022: 103 vs 112
2021: 101 vs 117
2020: 104 vs 116
No center in the last 30 years has ever won a championship being the best player outside of Shaq, Hakeem, and Tim Duncan, and when you pay a guy $41M, $44M, and $47M, you're paying him like he's your best player.
Now they have no way of improving their team for quite some time b/c they have ZERO first round picks they can trade at this time.
That team isn't winning shite when they have almost half of their salary cap spent on two centers, and then you add a 55 year old undersized PG making $24M that isn't goign to net you anythign at the trade deadline and you won't have cap space to add anything when his salary comes off the books this offseason, so they'll probably just resign 60 year old Conley.
These dumbasses are going to have $107M invested in their front court next year. That's not how you win in this league.
Their team is set for the forseeable future, with no way of making it better. They will have $128M on the books next year between KAT/Gobert/Edwards. They are in cap hell with not many ways to get out of it, or to improve their roster.
They might have the best record in the west right now, but no one in the west is afraid of them come playoff time. well, no one is afraid of Gobert/KAT come playoff time, but i think everyone should be afraid of Edwards.
That team would be a lot better with a $15-20M center and another near max perimeter player instead of Gobert/Conley, but they have no way of making that happen anymore.

It's still an awful trade
5 first rounders, a pick swap, and a Center that will probably be better for a guy that just plays defense. Plus, it's sometimes said that other players don't like Gobert.
I get it, he's a DPOY candidate all the time but that's all he's good for. The ammo they sent is the type you send for someone like Durant.
Ant is the reason the Wolves are good

The Timberwolves looks to have finally figured things out. It's too early to tell, but they may finally be ready to make some noise in the playoffs.
