Are the Colts a low key disaster zone right now?

Something that PFF would always discuss in the offseason was how weird the Colts roster construction is. They already extended Leonard to a mega deal and are about to do the same with Nelson. These 2 moves along make their roster construction very questionable, because off-LB and interior OL are not positions that you should invest that heavily in. They also invested top draft capital in a RB last year and they still have major holes at premium positions (edge and CB specifically...with QB a likely).

Now they're staring down the barrel of an 0-4 start and having to deal a potential top-5 pick to the Eagles next draft. Prior to acquiring Wentz, they had an inefficient allocation of resources, but now, especially with this start, it's just a disaster. That trade works if the Colts challenge for a title, but if they're terrible, it's going to become one of the worst trades in modern NFL history.

At least the Texans (who lost a top-5 pick last year) had their major money deals invested in key positions (OT and QB). The Colts are going to be in a major rebuilding mode while having a huge chunk of their cap invested in a OG, ILB, and Wentz.

They'll bench Wentz before they hit the 75% start requirement for the 1st round draft pick

They've already dragged him out, severely injured, for 2 games this year. That would be the icing on the cake after those 2 decisions.

For as much shite as the texans got this offseason (and it is well deserved) the Colts and Jags should have been getting a little of the same treatment cause they have not looked good at all

To be fair Nelson has looked like a future hall of famer interior lineman in his time in the league. I realize it’s lower down the spectrum but he hasn’t been an ordinary good interior lineman. Leonard has been good so far in his career but that’s more questionable to me.

The Wentz trade and their picks the last few years is probably why they’re struggling. I think Pittman has looked better but the Taylor pick was odd to me after investing so heavily in their OL. Guys like Rock Ya Sin and Paris Campbell have looked bad

Yeah they just really lack explosiveness outside. I think there’s a way to build inside out like they’ve tried to but I just don’t like the guys they’ve targeted. And they’re stuck in the limbo zone at QB still

Criticizing the Nelson pick is unfair imo. They had a banged up HoF level QB in his prime that they needed to protect. Nelson came in and did his job and then some. I’m sure the r Colts draft someone else had they known Luck was going to retire early.

He’s been a stud.

This is where they’ve gone wrong. They struggle just as much as NE at drafting a WR worth a shite. The last 8 or so years they’ve drafted one WR that was a legit top 32 guy at his position.

Not at all. 3 games doesn’t define a season

I think they think they are in a division where it's impossible not to win 4 division games and finish second.

Go 6-7 the rest of the way or even 5-8 and you still might make the playoffs.

I'm not criticizing the pick, or possibly even the contract (although he's allegedly getting OT money). It's investing that much in an interior OL, which is never going to as +EV as you'd think. On top of this, they're doubling down by doing the same with an ILB. That's going to hurt moving forward.

There’s 17 games now and I’m pretty sure a 6-10 team never made it in the 16 game format. The Titans are flawed but they’re gonna win at least 7 or 8 games in that division I would think

Heavily investing in interior OL, LB, and RB with either draft capital or huge contracts sounds like the Cowboys.

Fun fact: Indy hasn't won at Jacksonville since 2014.

Luck retiring took them from a possible super bowl contender to a team that is gonna be lucky to finish around .500 this season.

They’re still feeling the impacts of that move.

They are certainly worse off without Luck but they went 11-5 last season with Phil Rivers on his last legs.
