To point to a more extreme example, watching porn is different than if you watched an AI generated porn of some person in your life that you’re infatuated with.

The issue is broader than that. This kind of AI dogshit sucks and is a negative progression for society no matter how you slice it and I cannot wait until it stops being subsidized and people stop using it for garbage like this bc it’ll cost an arm and a leg

Yeah I think there’s a pretty big difference in someone taking actual effort to create those in a way that is obviously fake and meant for a message board audience vs a tool that’s main goal to to eliminate the uncanny valley enough that it at the very least tricks your grandma into believing it’s real. I have no worry that one day lsufreek is going to create a gif so real that people start believing they are a frame from reality
Also as someone else mentioned, this isn’t even a story if Arch doesn’t put his foot in his mouth and amplify it. Doesn’t need his head on a pike or anything, he’s a young dumb kid who turned of age right as this garbage became publicly popular. He’ll apologize and move on and everyone will forget this in a week.
