Anyone paying attention to what General Trass (Lake Providence, LA) is doing?

A few years ago the coach, Toriano Wells, came into a program with 17 players, one football, and one tackling sled.

Now he has them in the state semis in 2A. Hell of a good story developing here.

Lol nah. I’ve just been hearing it on local radio a few weeks now and they keep on winning.

ETA: And I can assure you this ain’t me.

Impressive. Didn’t they destroy Evangel earlier in the year. I know evangel is on a major nosedive, but that’s still amazing to see Trass beating them.

They were in the playoffs a few years with no wins. Quite a joke. No one is laughing now. Good for them and their community.

How does any school district allow this to happen? Does nobody there have the intelligence to write grant proposals or seek donations from other schools?

It was an almost new school. One ball and one sled is hard to believe, but knowing the Parish, probable.

Makes it sounds even worse, or else the equipment they ordered was taking forever to get shipped.

I’m used to new schools opening and getting all new equipment to go with...

You have obviously never been to East Carroll Parish / Lake Providence. Roughly 3,000 people and 50% of the population lives below the poverty line. The average income of a Lake Providence resident is $11,404 a year, which is equivalent to $5.50 per hour at 40 hrs/wk.

I use to do business and travel to LP in the early/mid 90’s. I went to meet an employer around 1994 and the downtown businesses and high school were burned to the ground. Granted that was 25 yrs ago, but nothing has changed in LP.

Here’s a good 15 minute video documentary on Lake Providence and the income inequality

I’m pulling for the football team to win the State championship as that is an incredible story

That little nook of extreme NELA is so isolated. I remember hearing about the town of Saint Joseph and how they had to shut the water down because it was so rusty

For most of these kids it's going to be the highlight of their lives. Bittersweet indeed.
