I love hockey. We had season tickets for the IceGators for years, then when I was 10 I started playing myself. Played for 3 years, and became a huge Red Wings fan when Paul Coffey and Dino Cicceralli came to our practice.

Just to clarify, there was no strike. The players were locked out by the owners. Lockouts are different than strikes.

Big Sharks fan here. When I started following them, they were the Saints of the NHL. Looks good for them to maybe play for the Cup this year.

Miracle on Ice in 1980 got me hooked. Fell in love with the Chicago Blackhawks because of their red jersey was and still is bad arse. When the ECHL came to LA, we would go to LFT quite a bit, then came the Kingfish followed by the Brass. Had season tickets for the Brass every year they were here. Made a few trips to Chicago and to other NHL cities that were close to Nola. After some tough years for Chicago, they are a much improved team and my interest is stronger than ever.

I have been a HUGE Stars fan my entire life. As far as sports go hockey was my first true love.

Personally, I think that the advent of HD benefits Hockey more than any other sport. I also feel like hockey is without a doubt the best live sport to watch.

I got into it when I was a younger guy during the 1994 Cup runs for the Rangers and Canucks. I was visiting western Canada at the time, and my dad bought me a Canucks hat. Needless to say, I rooted for them. and I have stuck with them ever since. Being from texas, I like to see the Stars win, but I do not go out of my way to be a huge fan for them. As of late, and mainly because of the way they run their organization, I have taken a liking to Buffalo.

The hardest part of following the game for me is that the names are so hard to pronounce, it's easy to forget guys.

GO HABS GOOOOOO

Grew up in CT, was a Whale fan until they left. Been a Montreal fan ever since. Went to Habs-Sabres game this past Dec. 20th. Best place to watch a game in the NHL. Also, Montreal is the best city in North America.

Haven't watched it seince the days of Mario, Jagr, Borque, etc...Penguins were the deal. The Wings and Avalanche were the last teams I remember being good.

*I met Joe Juneau at the Hartford airport, FWIW.

11 Stanley Cups

I think they can add 12 this year too.

I see a first round playoff exit to the Columbus Blue Jackets for the Wings (2-7 matchup, I'm predicting).

Blue Jackets as high as a 7 seed?

I'm thinking 1-8. Hey at least that means a playoff team.

I follow hockey but from a distance to be honest. It's not on TV enough for me to really get into it. Saw more games when ESPN had the gig. I just check the scores/highlights and see if Bruins won or not. If they're on I'll try to catch'em but I'm not going out of my way like I do with the Holy Trinity: Sox, Celtics or Pats.

So far they're looking good this season.

Right now, we're in 9th. I can see us making it all the way up to 5th. We're only 1 point back from 7th, 3 from 5th. We're starting to get healthy, too, and added a PP specialist in a trade yesterday, so we'll see. It'd be nice to get to 4th, so the 1st ever playoff game would be at home, but 9 points appears out of reach. You're right, though, that we should probably just focus on making the playoffs, with any seed, first.

I do.

Every season, I purchase the NHL package. Love it. Great sport to hold me over until July, then football starts a few weeks later.

I've been following hockey religiously since 1991. That's when I sat down and watched my first game and fell in love with it.

Watched the Flyers lose to the Lightning last night, and plan on watching the Flyers and Panthers tonight at 6:30 on channel 672. LOL

I got into it watching the Montreal-Kings series on ESPN when I was a kid. Then I went to college in Baltimore and had a few friends that were big Bruins and Whaler fans from New England. That, plus learning all the players names from NHL '95 on Sega got me more into it.

I was still a pretty good fan when I started dating Mrs. Oilfieldtiger, who is a big hockey fan from Minnesota.

But what sealed the deal for me was drinking from the Stanley Cup. A friend of mine from college is really good friends w/ Scott Gomez. My buddy had told me about all the big fun of partying w/ the cup in their hometown of Anchorage when the Devils won it 2000, and I explicitly stated that no matter where I was in the world, if Gomez ever won another cup I would find my way there on short notice. So in 2003 when they won it again I got an email in July saying the cup would be in Anchorage in a week. Mrs. Oilfieldtiger and I bought tickets ASAP and before you know it we're partying w/ Scott Gomez and the cup. Big fun!
