Without looking it up, I would imagine that Kobe shoots more from 3 per game for his career. Kobe shot a lot more tough/bad shots than LeBron.

What is this shite? You literally just responded to a post that had this info in it.

Kobe averaged 0.1 more threes per game, and a lower shooting percentage. So it's not like he was hoisting up a bunch more shots.

LeBron would kill to trade his ugly arse shoot from the left side of his head stroke for Kobe's. Let's be real. This isn't even a discussion.

I think these comments are a big reason people are so quick to dismiss LeBron in the GOAT conversation. His game is not as a pleasing to the eye as Kobe's or MJ's. Those guys were volume shooters with sweet strokes and otherworldly midrange games. Compared to Lebron's powerful at the rim game, goofy mechanics, and relatively flat jumper, it's no wonder folks think Lebron is an inferior scorer.

I fully believe things like that are the reason the conversation usually devolves into subjective comments and team accomplishments to compensate for statistically inferior players*.

I'll be honest. Never would have guessed this. So I had to look it up and you're right. I found it interesting though that kobe's 3P% eclipses LeBron's in the playoffs. Imagine that, more shots leads to less efficiency.

I don't know that I'd call them a full blown retard, but it's pretty evident James is the better all around player.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Kobe and would have absolutely loved to see him on my favorite team, but James is 100% the better player on the court.

it's kind of like how MJ (and the media of the time) created the NBA super duper star, and many fans expect the next great challenger to play the way MJ played. Kobe literally modeled his game after MJ's, so people unconsciously go "that's how greatness is supposed to be represented". Lebron is different, so he doesn't fit into that mold as easily and it's easy to say "well he's not great because [insert something Jordan did that was established as the baseline]"

Sure, but his volume has maintained but his efficiency has increased since his first few years.

Did that style of basketball work for Kobe though? Modeling his game after MJ? Did it help him accomplish his goals? His goal was to win. It wasn't to shoot 50% from the field or have a high PER. Did he do good at winning basketball games? Did he do good at winning championships? This is why I can't stand when people just look at stats. Why would Kobe change his game if it was working?

I would call LeBron the 2nd best player of all time at this point with the door still not closed for #1.. I think it's great that he is a beacon of efficiency, and that has definitely worked for him.. but is LeBron 5-2 in the NBA finals? Maybe he should shoot more...

To be fair, Kobe's per game numbers are skewed by his play off the bench early in his career. He actually shot 5.9 3s per 100 possessions, compared to 5.5 per 100 from LeBron. Still insignificant when arguing Kobe had to shoot tougher shots at a high volume, but a slightly larger gap than the per game numbers would imply.

Kobe did not have to wait for his competition in the West to age itself out for him to win like Lebron did in the weak East.

And yet he had played better than Kobe in the Finals. Of course, because he played against tougher teams, and didn't have the benefit of a teammate having historically great finals during Kobe's first 3 championships.

He is not a guy you can expect to stay efficient when he takes 30+ shots in a game, especially when forced to.

I think many people forget how good Kobe actually was.

They only remember him as he was very late in his career as a selfish chucker and a prick.

Its a funny comparison to me, Kobe is wayyyy ahead of Lebron if you go pound for pound. What Kobe did for his size, is magical. Lebron given his natural size, is able to do more.

Pretty much why I hate when people argue over this.

I dont even know where to start, but I will try.

1. There is no weight classes in basketball. So you saying "pound for pound" makes me know right away you think Bron is better, so you throw in a qualifier

2. You are dumb

no fricking shite theres no weight class.

Look at it this way, if Kobe was 6'8 250, instead of 6'6 210, do you think he would be better than Lebron, I mean considering at this point you could already argue for each...

I think you're looking way past this. Which is ok.

Also, lets say Lebron was also 6'6 210, do you really think he would be better than kobe?

I think you're starting to get where im going.

look i know when he finally accepted that Shaq was the alpha, they won some, and then when he had another insanely deep frontcourt built around him, he won again...but his game and attitude were toxic otherwise

i mean literally toxic

so yeah, he won, but he had to have juuuuuust the right roster built around him (where the frontcourt dominated)

Why would Kobe change his game if it was working?

there is a lot of data that it wasn't working for long stretches of his career and he never adapted
