I have been to one hockey game in my life. It was a Tampa Bay Lightning game when I was 10. Had a puck land in my lap within 30 seconds of the match starting. One and only time I have caught anything memorable at a sporting event.

I have been tossed two baseballs at games. I kept one cause it was after the game ended and from a Cubs and reliever. I just caught one from Jace Peterson and then gave it to kid nearby.

was at a Braves game back in the 90's and made an attempt to catch a Ryan Klesko homerun ball he hit during batting practice. I'm like 13-14 at the time, so the "adult" next to me makes an attempt to catch the ball by shoving his glove in front of me, it bounces off him and my friend that came to the game with me ended up getting the ball. The dude was pissed at me because he missed the catch claiming to have been protecting me or something.
I know one thing, I'm not fond of sticking my bare hand up to attempt to catch a ball anytime soon. maybe 15 years later it wouldn't seem to be coming as hard as it did then, but thing was smoked, and I wanted no part of it.

I caught a foul ball at Griffey Hall of Fame night at Safeco a few years back. It was sold out but the Mariners were getting killed and my whole section cleared out late in the game. Foul ball comes right at me in the 9th inning and it was totally uncontested

My entire shag bag of baseball growing up was Missouri Valley balls that I used to track down at Wichita State games. Everyone else was hitting those shitty balls that would get dented after a few swings and I had the best balls you could get.
I caught a Chipper batting practice HR in Atlanta when I was about 12. I literally stood in place, raised my hand, and caught it. We were in the 2nd row behind left field and Tom Glavine tipped his cap to me after the catch. I tipped mine back.

Alex Box in 1998 at the NCAA Regional game between Harvard and CSF. Pretty cool moment for me.
I've been to 100+ Astros games, and not once have I caught a foul ball.

Been to more baseball games than I can remember but never caught a foul ball. Usually though I dont try very hard you know, because unless its coming to me I just let kids run and get any that land nearby.
Did grab a homerun ball at a braves spring training game once though as a kid. Didnt catch it though, grabbed it after it landed.

Once at the old Alex Box. We had a little party going in the parking lot being the left field foul pole. I have my back facing the stadium, I notice everyone's attention behind me and as I turn around the ball bounces off the pavement and smacks me in the head. I didn't drop my beer or end up with the ball.
Another time got hit in the head at a Shreveport Captains game when I was a kid.

Caught 2 in one series at Wrigley a few years ago. Soriano on the fly, Carlos Lee off the rebound. Both HRs
And a jeff baker HR during BP in the air

I didn't catch it directly off the bat. Dave Gallagher, Braves LF in 1994, picked it up in foul territory and tossed it to me. I was 12. I still love that ball.

Several years ago in the old Texas Rangers stadium I caught a foul ball hit by Lou Whitaker of the Detroit Tigers. My brother and another guy fumbled the ball right into my open hands.
I also caught a pregame football kick in the South endzone at Tiger Stadium before the MSU/LSU game. I threw a perfect spiral back to the ball boy.

Never caught a foul ball, but Mitch Moreland has thrown a ball after the inning was over to me twice in our season seats.

Nice.
Once, when I was 12, I was at Wrigley and caught homerun ball from someone on the Expos. I threw it back all the way to the catcher on the fly.

bring glove.
stay alert.
feel free to duck beneath the chair in front of you.
I hate being down the 3rd base line.
Once in a while someone will hit a ball like a rocket.
Even if it is in play, the fielder is just trying to survive.

HBO Real Sports just had a story on foul balls last night actually. They were discussing the number of foul ball accidents and how MLB has been immune to lawsuits due to the tickets stating they hold no liability as you sit near the field at your own risk.
Also interesting was in Japan they have netting down the entire field to protect fans and employ spotters to go check on fans who do get hit in the higher seats. If you want to sit near the field in the "danger zone" they provide a helmet and glove.

Caught one at a spring training game. I was in pretty crappy seats in the second level down the third base line, and a line drive came right at me..stuck my hands out and it hit me in the stomach.
When my daughter was younger we never left a spring training game without several. She has a nice collection.
