Joining a league with my son and some of his friends. He just told me that the draft will be today. I told him I’m just going to have to wing it because I won’t have a clue what I’m doing, which is fine with me if it’s that way.

Curious though if anyone has any suggestions for a decent guide to fantasy baseball draft strategy. Lots of different options on YouTube, but I’m not sure which would be the best and I’m not interested in watching an hour and a half video. Looking for just a good brief synopsis of how to go about it, if such a thing exists.

Thanks in advance!

Depends on what scoring/stats yall use but in general I’d say wait on pitching til the middle rounds

You win leagues by keeping up with it often and hitting the waiver wire

Thanks. Makes sense to me.

Yeah I’m always watching for available players in my fantasy football draft and that has helped quite a bit over the years.

Appreciate it.

Being in South Florida, don't draft any Marlins.

Draft pitchers with high strikeout percentages. The young pitchers with high strikeout % are the ones likely to take the next step.

We did an 8 man league last year. I made the finals.

My suggestion is to only draft a solid closer or 2 for pitching. While I was eating breakfast for work, I'd just drop/add starting pitchers for that day. I
Think our roster was locked at 11am.

I had top 5 position players at all my fielding spots. Never won ERA categories but won Saves, Strikeouts, etc.

Draft elite hitters early, don’t draft pitchers u til around round 5 or so. Just google a few lists and get a quick consensus

Thanks for all the tips.

So how important are the starting pitchers? It’s going to be awfully tough for me not to draft Skenes in the first couple of rounds but it sounds like I’m not supposed to do that. Makes sense that I would need to draft good everyday players first.

Being a Reds fan I’m hoping I can snag Elly. Don’t know yet when I’ll be drafting though.

I had Skenes, Skubal and Wheeler as my top 3 pitchers

I also stayed away from Seattle pitchers despite having a solid rotation. It's going to be infuriating wasting great pitching and watching the offense put up 2-3 runs a game often.

I missed out on all of the top 5 catchers and waited it out for like round 18 to get some scrub.

Also, this version of Mike Trout is not the same as around seven years ago. Let one of your son's friends draft him and be furious he plays about 75 games this year.

If it's a live draft/in person I used to be in a league like that and I kept a fake list and a real list. This often led to the fake list getting wiped out earlier and being able to get more players I thought would help. If anyone saw my list and scooped up a name I'd always say "Son of a bitch, that was my next pick right there".

You have to draft pitchers whose team is going to win games. It doesn’t do any good to have a great pitcher who loses 3-2.
Same with the closers.

Fantasy baseball is the worst, and most time consuming.

Fantasy football, any jerkoff can auto draft and win a league. they play, 1 time a week

fantasy baseball you have oto get your lineup ready, every day, with some teams getting days off, others playing 20 out of 20,etc.

If i was you, i wouldnt even waste ur time. desk bitches in your league will be fixing their lineup for maximum stats, while your at work, vacation, etc.

These people spend all day searching waiver wires, i dont have time for that shite.
