The treading water leads to subpar product which leads to fan apathy, which leads to really crappy attendance numbers across the country.

It's happening and it's real

Are attendance numbers way down? I wonder in what order the revenue streams rank on average. I’d imagine the TV money dwarfs the loss in gameday revenue that’s driven by poor attendance, unfortunately.

The same people that have been saying for 20 years that stupid arse shitty meaningless bowl games should stay because it’s more football have been whining endlessly about too many playoff teams and games

And we’ve had 2 seasons of 12 teams

I think the sport of football may have actually reached critical mass.

You really don't see the difference?

Bowl games used to be plenty meaningful not that long ago, but aside from that, I'd rather watch fun, intersectional bowl games between comparatively equal teams than early round CFP blowouts of teams who have no business playing for a championship.

I watched every minute of Ohio-UNLV and Minnesota-New Mexico last bowl season, but maybe watched a quarter of Ole Miss-Tulane and Oregon-JMU.

The only way to combat this is to reduce conference games and more non-conference between the P4.
