All we know for sure is that the race he ran THAT DAY was arguably the greatest race by a horse of all time.

Ok, yeah obviously that's true.

I was just saying that if we had a time machine and put American Pharoah in the gate, Big Red probably runs an even better race all things being equal.

It's obviously a hypothetical. 99.9% of the shite posted on this board is made-up hypothetical bullshite.

How do you know Secretariat wasn't coasting at the end?

That's my point?

I jsut disagree. His jockey Ron Turcotte said that was the fastest and hardest he ever saw Secretariat run. He said Big Red just wanted to run that day. I think that makes Secretariat even more badass IMHO. Without needing to, he still went for a record. It was almost like he was going for it and knew what he was doing

Doesn't Secretariat hold the all-time records for all 3 Triple Crown races?
Not speculation.

The only thing we can base this off of without hypotheticals though is Secretariat's heart size.

Otherwise, theres really no way to determine this.

Yes
So then what are we talking about? Secretariat to this day holds the all-time records at the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and the Belmont.

Clearly he's a faster horse.

So, let's say Secretariat runs the exact same race and AP runs considerably faster....Secretariat still wins.

No smartass. By watching the race I feel that AP didnt run his hardest or fastest race. I was then called out for not knowing horse racing. So I suggested to go read what the "experts" say.

Your point? You realize not once has anyone claimed AP is the better horse. Maybe you should read the thread without coming in with a smartass douche heir about yourself

I may be getting this wrong, but I heard somewhere that AP ran the 2nd fastest Belmont ever, and 6th fastest time at the track. And still would have lost to Secretariat by 15 lengths.

why are you always championing for the inferior competitor?

1. Until that day, the jockey never knew Secretariat could run that hard. How do we know that another day he couldn't run even harder than he did at the Belmont?

2. People say things all the time to make the achievement seem more awesome even if it isn't exactly true. Just because the jockey said it doesn't mean he's correct.

I know little about horse racing and am relatively sure that Secretariat is the better horse--and likely the best of all time--but unless they were literally racing against each other, this video proves nothing except that Secretariat had a faster time at the Belmont on that particular day than American Pharoah did Saturday..

Also, heard a horse guy on the radio last night and found it interesting that Secretariat actually lost twice after winning the Triple Crown.

Not to be a dick, but do you read? We still think Secretariats is a better horse. But it is illogical to discredit or compare APs race by comparing it to Secretariats. That isnt how horse racing is run. They arent out there just running 100% at all times for the most part

Secretariat lost multiple horse races. AP is undefeated. It is all about winning right? So Secretariat is inferior according to you

DROPS THE MIC

PS: This is for fear only. I dont really think AP is better
