What's cool here is that nothing is coming out of the University's pockets. They get as rich and sassy as always with their big TV contracts and gate receipts.
Yes it will, they were involved in anti-trust behavior... the lawsuits are only beginning.

Ain't capitalism great? Common, admit it.
Yeah, but they were running a scam here, and now its finally caught up to them.
Also, if the schools don' get these kids under contract they (players) might figure out as a group they can just walk out at kick off.
Without contracts they have no duty to perform.
Its about to turn into a horrible business.

Not directly, but I laid out a scenario in this thread saying how it will indirectly happen, and that kind of stuff will absolutely happen everywhere. Restaurants and car dealerships will pay players very inflated prices for appearance fees in exchange for silent right of first refusal contracts with the schools. I'm sure there are other scenarios I can think of if I actually sat down and thought about it, but that came to mind immediately.

Right now, if you wanted to pay a Louisiana High School player to sign with LSU on signing day. You placed a contract in front of him for $1 million, there really isn't anything anyone can do to stop it or penalties it... other than the school could not offer the scholarship.
Third parties are not really subject to anything, although there could be with licensed agents.
Basically, its pay to play... the only thing the State is doing is saying the school receiving state aid shouldn't be involved.

This will 100% be a big deal for the Joe Burrows of the world and others who have crafted a niche through content creation. I also think there’s a lot of college athletes overvaluing their influence right now. It’s new and fresh, so everybody is trying to get theirs. In 2-3 years, everyone will be sick of middle tier golfers and volleyball players shoving advertisements for a local sandwich shop down your throat. The ROI won’t be there.
The feeding frenzy is always associated with new things. It will level off eventually and nerds will come along and do a few pie charts to show how it's all breaking down for us. In the meantime, I don't see money as an issue, just "business" distractions. College coaches will have to adjust accordingly and starting now.

Teammate jealousy could become a thing. If a QB gets paid, the OL and WRs will want their cut.

If they wanted a real piece of the pie they would organize and form an association, than they could organize a national walk-out situation. Pick a Saturday... line up and don't hike the ball.
The NCAA, conferences, and schools have contracts to perform... the players don't. The problem is, the schools built a business model on the back of someone that doesn't have to show up for work.

Scholarships can't be pulled for not playing. If all the players unite and stage a walk-out there really isn't anything anyone could do. Unions do it all the time, they're called strikes.
The schools could be held in breach of existing contracts, the players can't.

Pay to Play is not here. All these legislatures and NCAA have said boosers or companies can not offer money contingent on a player's attendance at your school. They also all state that it can not be based on performance...only their Name, Image, or Likeness. A person Cannot pay a player to go to school. He can make a deal after the player is at a school to promote his company or make an appearance.
There is literally no way to even quantify this much less than enforce it.
That there are people that believe this enough to actually type it out is hilarious.
Ex.
Bamas third string freshman five star OL: start me now or I’m transferring to Louisville to play now
Bama booster while nick stands ten feet back: calm down here’s 15,000 g and a Merc to drive while you are here. You’ll start as a junior. Stand here and say these words into that cam.
Us: will that really sell any cars?
Merc dealer who’s also a huge arse booster: frick no. Actual NFL stars barely move the needle. But I give 250,000 to Bama anyway. What’s 15,000 more. Roll tide.
Rinse repeat at every power five school.

Guys lose their schollies for violating team rules all the time. I’d imagine a pretty big one is “give your best effort in every scheduled practice and game, if available”

I’m not sure I’ve seen it brought up here, but what about the O lineman who busts his arse in practice and gets his brains knocked around every Saturday to protect the QB who is making all the money? It’s going to create unregulated inequity of compensation. What does that do to the unheralded cogs in the machine? Just one of so many possible issues. There will be a ton of unintended, unexpected and less tangible consequences due to dollars on the table. A ton. And they are going to start manifesting themselves immediately. Regardless the specifics, it’s going to be interesting to watch this unfold.

The basis of scholarships is that its not for "service", a scholarship has to be honored if a player refuses to play. The school can elect not to renew the scholarship the next year, but than the player can sign/transfer with another school.
A player has no obligation to even put his pads on, and as a generalization the scholarship has to be honor.

QB's make the most in the NFL as well...

Oh no!!!! Inequity!

I don't understand the mindset of people that are butthurt over this. If you are pro freedom then you should be 100% in favor of just letting players make money however they want. They're adults, for frick's sake.

Right. But the NFL has pretty well established pay ranges for position salaries, starters, etc. They have agents, the union and collective bargaining. And nobody is playing for free.
People with different work ethics and abilities live different lives, etc. etc. No kidding. But for college football it’s going to be the Wild West, navigated by some pretty simple 18-year-olds being advised by Uncle Slim. To think the kids and families making less or nothing, for whatever reason, won’t be potentially disruptive is naive. Would they demand money, sit out, transfer, quit? Nobody knows how the dominos will fall at this point.
Life isn’t fair. I’m sure every player will be wise, understanding, accepting and will just try their darn best in spite of it.
