Alex English on Keyshawn, JWill, and Max, regarding Joker:

“People don’t want to accept the fact that a big slow white guy is the best player in the NBA”….now I’m not saying he’s right, but it was an interesting comment. I also believe part of it is his (English) loyalty to the Nuggets…what say ye?

These stupid fricking “analysts” who never played in the NBA just don’t get it. If you’ve paid attention, all the players get it and none of them are haters.
Lebrons comments about him after he got swept says it all about Jokic. I think it was the best praise I’ve ever heard LeSwept give another player.
Active players and former players understand how special he is.

And I truly believe Mark Jackson “accidentally” left Jokic off his MVP ballot…

Bigger issue is that he's a quiet guy from a small Eastern European country. He's not really very marketable. If he was a white American named Nicholas Johnson, the hype would be off the charts.

I'll just throw in my 2 cents.
I think this is more of a media narrative. Not to play the black card, but from the barbershop to the kids I coach, The Joker is much loved and respected.
ETA: if yall thought kids mimicking Steph was bad, wait to you see all the tall heavy kids deciding they are going to run the offense.

It's the same reason people my age laugh at the idea that Bird could be on Mount Rushmore over LeBron. They've never seen him play. All they see is a slow white guy compared to LeBron living above the rim their entire childhood. Athleticism isn't the only trait that makes a great player. Btw I'm not sure if I even would have Bird over LeBron, it's close.

Honestly the league is trending in a bad way from a Superstar perspective IMO.
Right now the top 4 players in the league are all foreign born and talk with accents\broken english (Jokic, Embiid, Giannas, and Luka)
They are all relatively young and are going to be the face of the league once Lebron\KD\Steph retire which will occur in the next few years.
Americans typically enjoy watching other Americans dominate their sports. It's just a fact. I wonder how this will change the popularity in the coming years.

I don't know about that.
All those players are very popular and you can see it in their jersey sales. I don't think it matters all that much as long as a good product is put out.

Dominicans have been dominating MLB for years now and not sure it has impacted the league’s popularity.

The dudes on the pregame show were pained to say he was it.

Just look at Mark Jackson's MVP ballot as exhibit A.

He's a slightly handsomer Greg Ostertag.

Giannis after his championship got damn likable. I wonder if Jokic will do better in interviews and get a personality if they win it

Former NBA player Eddie Johnson is one of the worst. He cohost the “ The NBA Today” he always says Joker is overrated. I went back and with him on Twitter. I was trying to get him to admit that he doesn’t like him because he’s white

Kinda bs, because dirk ran the league for a few years and everyone knew it

I think a lot of it is the style of play. You watch the Nuggets for a half and you think:
- this guy can't really jump
- he doesn't really move quickly
- he doesn't put up bulk shot attempts
- my goodness, this is so boring
And then you look up the halftime stats and he's got a triple double with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists already and his team is winning by 18. It just kind of is what it is.

"Diversity" in the NBA seems to bring out the best in some people.

Shohei Ohtani (Japan) and Ronald Acuna Jr (Venezuela) might be the two most popular players in baseball right now.
