yeah man, nevermind that Bama was by far and away the most dominant SEC program of all time before him.
Dumbass
Maybe statistically overall. But 2/3 of Bamas titles come from Bear Bryant and Saban. Neither of those guys are coming back. 43% of their all-time wins came from these 2 coaches, too. Bama has gone through a lot of lean years outside of these 2 guys.
Outside of one flash-in-the-pan title in the early 90’s, bama was developing the reputation of a middling program in the years between Bryant and Saban. I see no reason we should expect much more than that going forward considering there are states with more talented high school players and states with less in-state recruiting competition from other schools.

Why does Alabama have less NIL money than, say, lsu or Georgia?
LSU has canes, oil money and injury lawyers
UGA is a really good school with i am sure plenty of wealthy boosters
Alabama seems like the poorer more redneck Texas. Where there are tons of boosters with enough money to have a voice which is great when someone like Saban can channel that energy in the right direction but a disaster when fractured

Think of all the corporate ties UGA has in Atlanta.

Headlines like this mean it's when, not if, PE gets involved in college sports.

I miss the days when the National Champion was "the best team money can buy" but you could only whisper about it, nudge...nudge, wink wink.
Now it's literally the best team money can buy.
I think Alabama misses the old days too...the pay for play wasn't open and level and treatment wasn't equal. Alabama hates equality.
CFB has grown tiresome, a chore to talk about, watch...all this NIL talk, every year your team's roster is different, players on 6 years with 4 different schools. Lets go back to hush-hush slush funds, less incentive to transfer and pretending players are there to get a Degree...you can't build a sport on an illusion and then shatter it overnight.

Price you pay when you have affordable auto insurance rates in the state

Well they had NIL for 17 years before it was legal.
While I am sure this is true, but not sure to what degree. This NIL, transfer portal, signing days all have pro's and con's. It also like any other major industry or business change has come with unintended consequences. It has definitely on one hand leveled the playing field on being able to get a dynamic player, all you have to do is pay. On the other hand, it has killed parity as the blue bloods will always have the most money to spend. Also even those programs will have to deal with roster depth, management and pay the right positions. So to win it all you will need to spend a lot of money, have some favorable schedule breaks, and keep a healthy first string and a little luck along the way. Welcome to college football 2025.

Alabama has had 2 generational coaches, they haven’t been “special” outside of that.

And you need more depth than in the old days… the days of there being cupcakes in your conference are over since everyone can spend on NIL… then instead of one bowl game, you have three or four playoff games

To be fair, I don’t buy for one moment that any of these collectives have as much money as they say they do nor do I believe they should exist to begin with anyways.
Agreed. Except Oregon and Nike
They are flush

and Texas and A&M. They pull money out of the ground.

Anything is better than that chest tattoo. That abortion is hideous

Great point.
With all of the Fortune 500 companies HQ'd in Atlanta ( Coke, Delta, Home Depot, UPS, Georgia-Pacific) UGA has an endless flow of money.

In the modern game, towns like Tuscaloosa in states like Alabama are cornered
The state doesnt have the really deep pockets to begin with. They’ve got maybe 1 billionaire. Then there’s Auburn vying for money too. So There’s just not enough money to go around in Alabama.
In Louisiana, we’re poor but we have some deep pockets with several billionaires, and only one large state university vying for it.
Saban knew Alabama couldn’t keep up financially.
They were better off in the old system where guys got paid under the table with money, cars, apartments and other toys…

Ole Miss has Barksdale but he isn't going to blow money on football. Same thing with Tommy Duff. Don't think the Creekmores will either but I could be wrong.
