How many homers did A-Rod hit when he was 25? 50?

52 in his age 25 season. A nice little 133/52/135/18 stat line.

However, he only hit 5 in his "rookie" season, which was only 48 games worth. He hit 36 in his first full season.

damn, I do wonder if Arod went to Boston, would he be considered the best ever?

Playing second fiddle to Jeter for his yankee career had to suck for him.

IF the Red Sox still win the ALCS with AROD then he is an absolute legend in Boston.

All because the dumbfrick union wouldn't let him renegotiate his contract.

Tey Yankee greats they mention are comparing him to played in the 20's to 60's.
They don't count. Those guys couldn't play today.

True, but it was a rookie season record that this DiMaggio guy held for 81 years that has been broken by the All-Star break. No big deal.

Ehh... it's impressive no doubt but the new balls have clearly been a major reason that HRs are up to a historic high.

It would be really interesting to see a season where modern players were forced to play with old rules and equipment. I'm sure many of the best would still continue to be great but there would also be a ton of guys who wouldn't be able to handle things like pitcher's mounds not being uniform, older balls that have much more movement, and balls that weren't wound nearly as tight.

Rookie home run totals:
McGuire - 49
Big Hurt - 38
Pujols - 37
Piazza - 35
Abreu - 35
Braun - 34
Canseco - 33
Young - 32
Salmon - 31
Trout - 30
Judge - 30

So he is already tied for 10th at the all-star break.

ESPN stats page has Judge projected to finish with 57 homers at his current pace.

Frank Robinson had 38, not Frank Thomas.

McGwire also had 30 at the All-Star break his rookie season.

ETA: You also left out a lot of other guys that hit 30+ as rookies.

He was a first round pick

How did he play in college, then take 3 years after that to get here when he can do this?

seems like 1st round college guys usually rise faster.

will lessen his career stats if he goes on to do this for 15 years

That stat illustrates how great DiMaggio was. Yankee Stadium was notoriously brutal for right-handed power hitters. Left Center Field was over 450 feet from home plate and Right CF was well over 400 feet from home plate. It was virtually impossible for RH hitters to hit HRs to those alleys yet DiMaggio was still able to produce tremendous power numbers.

I'd be curious about Joe D.'s home/road splits. A lot of those homers had to be hit on the road. As someone said about the old CF in Yankee Stadium, "It was a good drive in a Buick".

Many of the All Time Great Yankees weren't Rookie Yankees

Say what? Gherig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Munson, Jeter....almost all the great Yankees played only for that organization.

Dude has been dominating all season and was pretty talked about coming into it. I dont think a star was necessarily born last night, but rather the casual fans that dont tune in day to day got to see this dude put on a show.

Reminds me of Josh Hamilton's performance in the 2008 HR Derby... in Yankee Stadium. That was when he became a superstar in the MLB
