A new name is emerging as the top QB for the 2022 draft

Who is QB1 in the 2022 draft class? That is the question every draft pundit, scout, media member and fans are trying to answer. Over the summer, most thought it would be a two-player race between Spencer Rattler and Sam Howell. Both of them have been major disappointments so far this season. Rattler was benched this past week against a Texas defense that is nothing special. His backup quarterback had to come in to lead a come-from-behind victory in the second half. There is a chance he doesn't regain his starting spot.
Their poor play has made it a wide-open race for QB1 in the class. One quarterback has stood out among his peers this season and is definitely in the conversation: Kenny Pickett. The Pitt star has accounted for 19 touchdowns and only one interception this season and is currently PFF's highest-graded quarterback in the nation. Pickett is near the top of every statistical category in the nation and is creeping up Heisman watchlists.

His athleticism has shined this season too. Pickett's mobility in and outside of the pocket has allowed him to make plays when his receivers can't get open or his protection breaks down.
What has improved, though, is his accuracy. Pickett had solid accuracy going into this season, but it has now become a strength. He has shown the ability to place the football where he wants to all three levels of the field, a quality that is crucial in being a high draft pick.

Well, @Pitt_FB QB Kenny Pickett vs. Georgia Tech is the best QB tape I've studied so far this year.
Full inventory of throws. Outstanding accuracy and awareness. Clinical performance!

I mean, I know y’all think us lsu fans are obsessed with joe burrow, but if you read the quotes about him and his improvement, plus what scouts or analyst or pff says about him, it’s really similar to a joe burrow scouting report .
Improved in accuracy, athletic , ball placement ect it’s all there.
Not saying he is gonna be joe burrow or win a heisman , they just have a very similar skillset and story

Howell has WRs and TEs dropping passes left and right and running the wrong routes. He’s had to play hero ball. I mean. shite. He’s the 2nd leading rusher on the team, has 53 more carries than the next guy and 9 fewer than the guy ahead of him and he’s no Lamar or Watson running the ball. Rattler IS dog shite though.

I’m surprised Grayson McCall isn’t even on the radar.

For fricks sake, does anything not come back to Burrow around here?

He fought off the supernatural, the ghosts that shoved him down the stairs and the old Civil War generals, in full regalia, that stood over his bed watching him sleep. No, really, his mom said: The property — the one she’s standing on right now, on this sun-splashed Wednesday — is haunted, and the house was, too.

I fully comprehend that Kirk Cousins would be a perfectly adequate and respectable result for an NFL QB pick, but Christ, is that really the comp you want for a QB1.

A lot of teams wouldn’t hate having him as their QB. He hasn’t been up to par the last couple of years, but when he was signed as a FA the fully guaranteed contract showed how valuable a middling, fringe top 10 QB at the time was and will likely continue to be moving forward.

I know you can do much worse than Kirk, but that’s about the least exciting QB1 comp I’ve ever seen.
I get that most QBs end up much, much worse than Kirk, but the point still stands.

Most refrafts of 2012 have Cousins anywhere from the #2 pick to the #10 pick while being the second, third or fourth QB taken. It's not a bad comp.
Pickett will be 24 before next season starts and is unlikely, at this point, to go #1 unless a team is desperate and reaches.

Doesn't really matter to me. Josh allen played at Wyoming and completed like 56% of his passes.
Hebert played at Oregon and people didn't want to draft him high because he had a bad game against auburn.

Will the southeastern Louisiana qb get drafted?
He is always putting up good numbers from the little bit I see.

I watched one of Pitts games and this guy is very good. Number 1 I don’t know, but he has been in college awhile and has been mentoring by Peyton Manning (said the announcers).
