To an extent. Yes, he made bad plays and the other team capitialized, but some blame yesterday has to be on the coach.

Yeah...it's like LSU fans blaming Jamie Howard for the AU loss

Unless Romo was changing run plays to pass plays when he threw the INTs then there needs to be some blame on the coaches

Why so many people here hate Cam

I was not talking about any one here on TD. One of the places I heard some one squawking about how he was putting up stats but losing was on the radio in Houston, so it had nothing to do with LSU or the Saints.

I like what I've read on this thread. We've got people talking about focusing on the process, people talking about irrational biases, all kinds of good stuff.

Great thread, great comments.

I am an LSU and Saints fan and I love Cam Newton. I remember watching the Auburn/MSU Thursday night opener last year and calling my buddy and saying "Are you watching this Auburn QB?He's fricking awesome." Then I get on the Rant after the game and everybody is saying how both teams suck. I could not believe they had seen the same game I did. I told them they were fricking stupid--Newton was a stud. And I've been on his bandwagon every since. Except when it hurt LSU, of course.

I hated Cam and thought for sure he'd be a bust until about game 3 last year and then I just gave in. Dude just has "it." Whatever "it" is.

And I'm typically one who is all about what statistics and empirical evidence say... but Cam is special.

Personally Andy Dalton is more impressive.. he's winning games.

They both have about a 58-59% completion rate.. but one has steve smith and one has a rookie.

Congrats on taking just the first sentence out of context, both have the same completion percent and about the same ratio of tds/ints.

So you're saying that cam is more impressive because the coaching staff is just saying "frick it, go throw it 60 times a game until you learn how" and he has a pro-bowl WR to throw to?

I was not comparing Cam Newton to anyone so I don't care which rookie has looked "most impressive" for the purposes of this thread. Cam Netwon has played very well so far, there's no denying that. Doesn't mean he will be superstar, but its generally stupid to judge QB's on W/L record, but 4 games into a rookie season its insanity.

didn't Jimmy Clausen and the parade of other crappy QB's they've had the last couple of years have Steve Smith to throw to as well? Why didn't Clausen have 2 400 yard games if all it takes is having an old All pro WR? Remember all those awesome games Raiders QB's had when they had Randy Moss? Me either. You and many others are just trying to discredit him because they don't like him. We have no idea if he will be a star over the long term, but trying to discredit him 4 games in when he has played better than expected is pretty pathetic.

Cam has impressed the hell out of me. Wait until he actually learns how to play the game. Gonna be scary when the mental side catches up to the those physical tools.

And this past week he established himself as a red zone threat as a runner in the NFL

He hasn't really shown that much of his running ability yet which is scary

Dalton has a lower completion percentage, a worse QB rating, fewer yards and TDs and 110 fewer rushing yards.

But I guess he does have 1 fewer pick.

The only question I have is why is Steve Smith left wide open by teams still? I mean props to Cam for finding him but a few of those tosses just have to be in the range. Last week he underthrew the ball by like 5 yards or more but Smith was wide open so he still caught it

You're right, that extra .5% completion percent makes a huge difference.

And you think its a positive that he throws for that many yards? throwing 50 times a game is NOT a good game.

I admit I was wrong cam is a lot better than I thought he was. I still don't think rushing 10 times with your RBs a game is a winning formula, but he's not calling the plays.

The likely reason he underthrew that ball was because he had been flushed out of the pocket and was running to his left and had to throw against his natural motion.

And he STILL threw it 50-yards downfield.
