That’s really bad….. I knew this was going to happen… but I’m sure a lot of nfl players with good contracts should not be taken in by this gambling deal.

NFL: gambling is a fun and enjoyable pastime. We're proud to join with our sports book partners in promoting it to the fans.

Also NFL: except you players. To you it's a vice that compromises the integrity of the game.

General intelligence is not a mandatory requirement to be a professional ball player. In fact, I would bet more than a few are some of the dumbest people you will ever meet.

Throw in the fact that many come from backgrounds of very little money and no real concept of sound financial thinking to suddenly having more money than 99.9% of the US population, and it is a recipe for terrible decision making

Dexter Manley was a beast on the field for some real good Redskins teams. Couldn’t read a lick.

NFLPA needs to stand up for these players, who are OK to be used to fuel gambling...but can't gamble themselves.

I think they can, they just can't do it in an NFL facility

Have any MLB or NBA players been caught gambling? Of course NFL rosters are bigger though

Is it stupid though? They have an obvious incentive to wag that finger at the players. If they just brushed it off it would be complete chaos.

I think it's stupid tp punish players for betting on non-NFL games. I don't think it should matter where they were when they clicked the "confirm bet" button on their mobile app.

I totally understand why they wouldn't and shouldn't want NFL players betting on any NFL games.

Why is it a big deal if they use Caesar’s or draftlings to bet on MLB at an NFL facility?

Also NFL: we will use officials to blatantly fix games to support outcomes we want....

More reasons why YOU or ANYONE shouldn't gamble on that sport.

I don't know why anyone would bet money on these leagues at all.

Hard to feel sorry for anyone caught breaking this rule

I don't disagree, but it's pretty shitty that the NFL will embrace the sports betting culture yet suspend players who sports bet.

I can't view at work, did the tweet mention if they were caught betting on NFL or just on other sports?

They've been cozy with them for decades

Less than a decade ago they wouldn’t even allow players to play fantasy football or have anything to do with Vegas or gambling. That relationship has absolutely changed recently with the influx of legalization.

So, it’s a “let’s make an example of the non-stars” move by the NFL? Typical

I think it stands to more reason that it’s more likely to have an end of the roster player take this risk given the shorter career span, lesser earning, and unguaranteed money that’s involved

And the first guy to get popped for this was Calvin Ridley so I don’t think they are really discriminating on star power here.

It sure seemed like Jordan Thompson had money on the MCWS game 2 Sunday.

The league opened this Pandora’s box by getting cozy with the casinos and bookies.
I don’t see it this way and don’t see how the players were incentivized to bet on their sport any more than players were 20 years ago.

I don’t get this logic.

You can’t have the players betting on their games..

Some were betting on college games, just in the wrong place. If an NFL player bets on any NFL team it is a violation.

Meanwhile, NFL owners are installing sports books inside NFL stadiums but NFL players can’t bet on college football games from those stadiums.
