The problem is you have a different playoff committee this year. If we still had the original one Ohio State would not get in based on their criteria they had in 2014 for keeping TCU out. They didn't play (or have) for a conference championship game so they got left out. Maybe it will take Ohio State getting left out for us to expand this playoffs. Although then you'd have like 4 Big Ten teams in this year and everyone would bitch anyway. We really need to go back to the computers and take the human element out of the playoff selection.

I don't feel like typing it out again but 2014 changed a ton in the last week. Tcu lost a quality win and one of their quality wins got worse, OSU beat a top 15 team by 60. Baylor passed them on head to head and when okie state beat OU it hurt their resume as well
This year is nothing similar. If okie st beats OU it will hurt OSUs resume but OU will be top 15 end of year anyway

Not the same thing.

We should. It's interesting how that looks right now.

Okay well if you're using computer formulas. Ohio state gets in without question.

Top five right now in Massey:
1 Alabama
2 Ohio State
3 Michigan
4 Clemson
5 Washington
3-4-5 are close enough that Clemson and Washington likely will jump if they win. There's your four, and the computers and humans will agree for the third straight year.

Not sure why y'all want to let these "wildcards" in. You didn't win your Conf. You don't deserve to win a National Championship. Take the 4 conference champions with the best resume.
Or just take the four best teams, brainiac.

Pretty much how I feel. Alabama, PSU, and Clemson all have to play another tough game and risk having key players injured.

Correct..... OSU should be in. But the big ten champ should be as well.....

Correct..... OSU should be in. But the big ten champ should be as well.....
1. Alabama (better record, tougher schedule)
2. Ohio State (better record, tougher schedule)
3. Clemson (better record, similar schedule)
4. Washington (better record, slightly weaker schedule)
The only argument the B1G champ will have is with Washington, but the computers (and humans) likely will rate Washington more highly, defeating virtually any decent B1G champ argument.

You didn't win your Conf. You don't deserve to win a National Championship
If 3 of the top 4 teams are in 1 conference, that 1 conference should have 3 teams in a 4 team playoff, rather obviously.

Yeah, that's not how it works. You don't get the title of best team in college football when you are unable to earn the title of "Best Team in my Division"

quote:The playoffs work to put the best 4 teams in the playoffs...that's it.
If a team can't be the best team out of 7 throughout an 8-game sample size, then that team needs to sit their arse at home and watch the playoffs on TV.
It's the elimination before the elimination. Or at least it should be.
That criteria alone makes your post off base IMO.
It's not about trying to pick the best team, it's the best 4. You don't have to have any argument whatsoever as the best team in the nation or being better than that other team in your conference, that's irrelevant.

Sure did. Still salty over 1/9?
Not Alabamas fault Okie State didn't take care of business.

The difference is that, in all of those sports, the division champion is guaranteed a sport. In fact, they're given a home-field advantage.
I don't have an opinion either way. Both arguments have their merits.
That's actually false. The NBA recently changed their playoff format where they removed division winners from getting a guaranteed playoff spot.
quote:
1. A division winner might not make the playoffs at all. Simply put, the top eight teams in each conference, according to overall record, will get in the playoffs, and they will be seeded according to those records. Winning your division now means nothing more than a banner in the rafters, if you're still into that sort of thing. Last year the Blazers got a top-4 seed without a top-five record because they won the Northwest division, and as a result, the Spurs, who had a better record, got the No. 6 seed. That won't happen anymore.
To be clear, a division winner isn't even guaranteed a playoff spot at all anymore. It's unlikely that a division winner would finish outside of the top-eight conference records, but it's possible now, and given how terrible the Atlantic division has been over the last few years, it's definitely on the table at least.
This is good news for those teams that play in tough divisions like the Central or Southwest, and a fair adjustment. If you can't make a top-eight record, you don't deserve a playoff spot, period.

Salty? Nope. Don't care. I grew up and got over obsessing over college sports years ago.
Just really hypocritical is all.
No matter who y'all play, hopefully y'all lose.

The NFL discussion is so dumb. in the NFL you play all your division opponents home and away. OSU may have lost to Michigan at Michigan and beat PSU at home. There is no way to know
CFB is hugely influenced by home field advantages, so that should weigh in

On k e hand that's throw the committee has been doing it so they should at least be consistent.
On the other hand I thought the reason we went to 4 teams and a committee was so the 4 best get in.
