130lbs in not average for any middle school class. I don't care how many pole vaulters or track stars y'all had

Just looked him up. Name is Aaron Durley and he will be a freshman playing basketball at Marquette.
6'10, 260 pounds so he didn't grow too much from his LLWS days
ETA: It was in the spring, at the end of 8th grade, so not the same as these kids just starting the 7th grade. And obviously 1.5 years makes a big difference at the age group.
The pole vaulter was actually the lightest guy at the time, and I think I was second at around 110, even though I was about 5'8 or so. Damn, I was a real stick then.

The weight limit for the team is 135. No issue here.
Except the league frequently makes exceptions, has helmet designations for kids over 135, and makes them play line exclusively.
Now, maybe those kids are only 140-150, but 135 doesn't seem to be a strict cap.

Those exceptions are made for 6th graders that are over the weight limit. There are no exceptions made for 7th graders.

This has always been the way.
I got turned down when I was younger.

It's 135 for skill players period. Kids in elementary can be over 135 but they have to be linemen. Kids in 7th have to be under 135 or gasp...they have to play for their junior high in which they go to in the first place. Kid should be in junior high ball or not play.

Hadn't seen that anywhere. Doesn't make much sense, unless there's more there. Why would 6th graders get to weigh more than 135 but not 7th?
Because 7th graders can play Jr High ball. 6th graders don't have an alternative.

What kind of podunk town is Mesquite? My school district had football starting in 5th grade.

I feel sorry for the kid it must be strange being that big at just 12 years old but there is no way he could play pee wee ball. If the Jr High coach is smart he should talk with the kid and work with him slowly to get him the confidence and experience he needs.

Yeah according to this the average should be around 100-110 pounds

Mom says he wants to play NFL but he is scared to play MS ball?
Posted on 8/17/12 at 7:01 am to Gulf Coast Tiger
Let's face it, if he falls on a normal pee-wee kid he'd crush him. He should play school ball, pee-wee is great for the smaller guys who aren't ready for school ball. We had a guy in 7th grade who went close to 300 lbs and was 6 foot, we didn't have peewee leagues here open for everyone back then (private league for just white kids is what we had, same with baseball). He played junior high ball with us but the school had to get a helmet from the Saints to fit him, he had a head size well over an 8. Guy was super slow and not mean at all.

Yes, I don't see the problem here. If you were overweight you didn't play.
