I thought it was great. I love how Marinovich admitted he had God given talent but he also worked his arse off for the "lottery ticket", so wasn't it his right to throw it away if he wanted? Why are you pissed? You don't have to live his life.

He also pointed out that his father was an addict in his own way -- I think he clearly understands he got that addictive personality from his father -- he just turned his addictions into something self-destructive.

Anyway, I think Todd has a good perspective on it. He didn't want to be a football player, but he didn't know how to stop. But he strikes me as a guy who is at peace with his life -- mistakes and all.

He'll always be an addict, but I think he's at peace with his life and the decisions he's made. It doesn't mean he believes that he's made the right decisions, but that his decisions are what makes him the person he is. It was his lack of self-respect that lead him down the path of drug abuse.

I agree with all that and he seems at peace with it. I just think the documentary tried to make it something that it wasn't, to make the story better.

Not buying that. He clearly went off the rails when his parents split and he had to switch schools. It had a severe effect on him. Once he got into the drug world it became his surrogate family

It was pretty good...

I would up feeling sorry for the guy.

Anyone know how successful he's been with the artwork?

They seemed to pass it all off on his dad and stuff he couldn't control. At some point a person has to say screw this, Im not gonna let drugs do this to me and take control. I guess I'm numb to the whole story. One of my best friends that I played baseball with was unbelievable. He way ALWAYS way better than everybody including myself but he got into drugs and it ruined his career. At one point he stopped playing for 2 years, decided he wanted to play again and the very first game he pitched he was 93-95 without throwing a baseball for TWO years. I guess I'v never forgiven him for it. He was adopted and seemed to blame it all on that. People around him tried to help him but nothing helped. Part of me feels like I could have done more but part of me hates that he would do that to himself.

I thought the stuff about him and Larry Smith was the best part of the doc.

GREAT film, I really enjoyed it. Will admit though, I had zero idea who this guy was, as did almost every one of my friends (we're all at LSU). It was at a time when my generation was very young and in no way were any of us informed sport fans. Glad they did a piece on him, and kudos to ESPN

I agree, at that point Marinovich was bigger than him. He went 9-2-1 and 8-4-1 in their two seasons together. Not entirely successful, but it's very rare to see a feud spill out into the open.

Pretty sure it wasn't a 30 for 30 and didn't shed in new information into Marinovich that we didn't already know.
