Some morning notes:
The wind is expected to shift directions throughout the day, according to a driver I talked to last night. They think there could be a tailwind on the 0.9-mile stretch during the race, where they already will be going 180mph+ (before push to pass if they use it).
—-
Christian Rasmussen backs it into the tire barrier right at the end of the session.
—-
Carl Edwards' son was competing in the Toyota GR Cup races this weekend.
—-
Two years ago, David Malukas was sidelined with a broken wrist and on the way out as a McLaren driver because he couldn't race. Now he has a pole and a podium already at Team Penske
—-
For the initial start of the race, drivers will take the green before Turn 10 and can pass once they take the green. Just like Detroit. Or as NASCAR does on many of its road courses in hopes of spreading cars out before first turn. But here in Arlington, only for initial start.
—-
Come over to Indycars Max
More scathing criticism from Max Verstappen of F1's 2026 cars and the quality of racing: "If someone likes this, then you really don’t know what racing is about. It’s not fun at all. It’s playing Mario Kart. This is not racing."
—-
INDYCAR did some minor grinding to bumps Friday night here in Arlington. They did not do any grinding last night. An orange stripe was added to the bottom of the barrier to drivers left between turns 7 and 8 to enhance visibility.
—-
The changes in INDYCAR schedule today are safety related and not competition related. The bigger gusts toward 50mph are supposed to come mid/late afternoon. Virtually everything here is a temporary structure.

INDYCAR starting lineup for Arlington with tire choice. FOX coverage begins at 11:30a ET and green at 12:17p ET. Must use at least two sets of alternate (soft) tires for race. They get five sets of each for the weekend.

Damn shame New Orleans couldn't figure out how to do a street race well. Yes I know the Grand Prix du Mardi Gras existed 2 years.

Financial in the end. Something with contracts and how money was paid. If I remember right there was a downpour that came through compromising the race due to flooding.
The track had issues (sinking and bumps) then and I would imagine they have only gotten worse. Can't really tell at the racing I have seen there recently

Good race, good crowd, fresh face on the podium.
I bet the Andretti guys will have some training if not replacement on their pit crews in the next two weeks.

Thank you for the solid answer

With the many complaints about F1 (Apple, power unit problems, Mercedes dominating) and the cancellation of 2 races do yall think Indy Car can take advantage and capture more of the US audience?

It should. Full network support along with all races on a single network will help. There was no large gap between the early races this year’ along with good racing should build momentum Indycar has needed for a while.
Arlington is what a street race should be. I hope it becomes permanent.

I’m not a fan of street courses, but I enjoyed this one

I’d love for them to try again .
Is there a suitable area around NOLA that could work ?
Would having it during Mardi Gras season be good or bad ?
April is pretty open for Indycar too , so maybe they could do something before jazz fest ??

Kirkwood is the best American driver in the world and it’s not even close
