Commments from Max post race:
LINK
quote:
Max Verstappen says he is considering his future in Formula 1 after finishing eighth in the Japanese Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver, 28, said he was "not enjoying the whole formula" following changes to the engine rules this season.
Asked in an interview with BBC Sport whether that meant he was going to walk away at the end of the season, the Dutchman said: "That's what I'm saying. I'm thinking about everything inside this paddock.
"Privately I'm very happy. You also wait for 24 races. This time it's 22. But normally 24. And then you just think about is it worth it? Or do I enjoy being more at home with my family? Seeing my friends more when you're not enjoying your sport?"
quote:
He said his dissatisfaction was not to do with Red Bull's lack of competitiveness at the start of the new season, which has seen the biggest regulation changes in F1's history.
"I can easily accept to be in P7 or P8 where I am," he said. "Because I also know that you can't be dominating or be first or second or whatever, fighting for a podium every time. I'm very realistic in that and I've been there before. I've not only been winning in F1.
"But at the same time when you are in P7 or P8 and you are not enjoying the whole formula behind it, it doesn't feel natural to a racing driver.
"Of course I try to adapt to it, but it's not nice the way you have to race. It's really anti-driving. Then at one point, yeah, it's just not what I want to do.
"And of course you can look at it and make a lot of money. Great. But at the end of the day it's not about money any more because this has always been my passion."

I think it’s time for Max to become a Martyr. You know, put his money where his mouth is.
Similar to Kimi in Monaco back in the day, where he walked off the track to start drinking on a yacht after his car caught on fire. The next time Max’s battery fails, he should just walk away permanently. No talking to the media, fans, just completely destroy the sport of F1. Kill the sport, force the changes, and in the meantime become everyone’s heroes and live off of sponsorship deals until it’s time to come back to F1 when the fans’s lack of interest forces their woke hands.

It’s very easy to say it’s not about the money when you have 10s of millions in the bank

Kill the sport,
Meh, wouldn't kill the sport. Its much bigger than Max.
But to have your best driver, in the prime of his career, walk away would def be a black eye.
Like I said earlier, I'm glad Leclerc and others have come out and said they hate the battery bullshite. Maybe they can force changes but I honestly don't know how much they could change based off how they set the cars up.

I haven’t missed a qualifying in 5, maybe 6 years. I haven’t watched a qualifying or race this year, just highlights. If Max, one of the most talented drivers of all time, left in his prime, I wouldn’t even be interested in highlights. I know several like me. If Max just walked away, I would have a personal grudge against F1 and max just walking away like a martyr (sacrificing his 75 million salary), would draw attention to the woke bullshite and millions would lose interest/retaliate. I’d worship the guy if he did.

This season has gone straight into the absurd.
The pre-race was wall to wall new Mario Bros movie promotion and after the race drivers complain about mushroom mode getting Bearman into a serious crash.

Toto was getting annoyed with George’s whining during the race. Wonder if he had to tell him “we went moto racing” after the race. What are the Mercedes version of the papaya rules gonna look like?

Still haven't seen what happened, but like I said earlier, def looked like the videos of power loss they were seeing in FP3 and Quali... The car clipping out and losing 50kph.
Looked like the Alpine had this happen, whereas Ollie had battery and just skyrocketed up on him and had to go to the grass to avoid.

Ollie caught up to him doing almost 30mph faster and had to take evasive action.

Yeah, they said in real time last night it was 40 something KPH difference when it happened.. which is almost identical to losses they were seeing in Practice and Quali
Just saw that Sainz has come out and said there need to be changes, that the Bearman crash was a direct effect of the closing speeds with the batteries and clipping of engines.

I used to enjoy watching this. Drive to survive got me hooked. Now I’m barely interested. It isn’t racing at all.

Does Williams have an excuse for absolutely sucking

And now Norris comes out bashing the setup
LINK
quote:
“Honestly some of the racing, I didn't even want to overtake Lewis. It's just that my battery deploys, I don't want it to deploy, but I can't control it,” Norris said when asked by Motorsport.com.
“So, I overtake him, and then I have no battery left, so he just flies past. This is not racing, this is yo-yoing. Even though he [Hamilton] says it's not, it is yo-yoing.”
quote:
The fact that overtakes no longer have much value is one factor for Norris, but the McLaren driver finds it even more frustrating that he sometimes feels powerless behind the wheel.
“When you're just at the mercy of whatever the power unit delivers, the driver should be in control of it at least, and we're not.”
According to Norris, this problem mainly occurs when a driver uses overtake mode, so when they are within one second of the car ahead. It led to a moment when Norris overtook Hamilton in the final chicane, after which he was immediately countered again on the main straight.
“Well, the problem is, it deploys into 130R. I have to lift, otherwise I'll drive into him, and then I'm not allowed to go back on throttle. If I go on throttle, my battery deploys, and I don't want it to deploy because it should have cut. But because you lift and you have to go back on [throttle], it redeploys.”

I’m into Indy now after the F1 fiasco this year

FIA in damage control mode... They are getting ripped all over socials over the fake overtakes and formula e bullshite.
Like I said earlier, how much could they really change without comepletely redoing the regs? I wouldn't think you can just turn down the battery and up the engine and maintain performance. The regs were designed around that 50/50 bullshite.
ETA:
Confirmed it was due to the clipping they were seeing during FP and Quali.. The drivers had been warning against this, just like Senna warning them before his death.

The differential, a closing speed of 50kph, had been caused because Bearman was deploying extra electrical power – the boost mode – just as Colapinto was going much slower as his energy use had been depleted. Many had warned this scenario was likely under this season’s new regulations, with the management of electrical energy now an integral part of racing.

quote:No because he prefers Kimi. Kimi is more marketable because fans hate George for some reason and is not good at selling merch, which F1 team are really after.
Looks like Toto may have a Papaya rules situation to deal with. Is he gonna tell Kimi to get in line and support Russell or then fight it out?

I’ve generally held off on complaining about the new regs but this shite is just silly. Battery deployment and harvesting aren’t a new thing, but they were predictable and generally controlled by the driver for the last two reg sets. Now it’s just “computer says car go faster/slower…good luck.”
What’s crazy to me is they could still have done the 50/50 Hybrid, V6 engines, and “sustainable” fuel shite, and just not frick up how the battery power is deployed. Call it push-to-pass and be done with it.
I say this as a Merc fan since the Brawn GP days (how was that 17 years ago…). I LOVE watching Red Bull fight for scraps in the midfield…but yeah, something’s gotta change.
