Yea if Mercedes is really kneecapping the teams running their PUs then you have to imagine this is partially due to McLaren mopping the floor the last couple years with a Mercedes PU in the back while the parent team couldn't compete. They're not concerned about Williams because they've built a pig but they'll likely be concerned about giving McLaren the same power advantage given what McLaren has shown to be able to do in the aero/chassis development lately.

So nothing for the entire month of April... What a clusterfrick.
2 Indycar races from march 31- May, including the most prestigous street race in the country- Long Beach, and the Indy Open Test ...no Apple TV needed (Fox network)

IndyCar races at Long Beach in April (their only race in April). Long Beach is IndyCar's "Monaco" race. A street race that has been very popular since its beginning as an F1 race decades ago.
If Max wanted to sample IndyCar, this would be a great event to give it a go, even if a street course is not ideal. Ganassi or Penske or Andretti would find a chassis for him and there are enough random personnel around to create a team for him (think of Indy 500-only teams and the personnel they'd have available). The availability of an engine would probably be the only hangup.
Long Beach is the most prestigious and biggest street race in the country ..

If Prema shows up to Long Beach as has been rumored, Max would also have to qualify in as the 3rd car wouldnt be a chartered entry,
He'd probably need at least a couple tests to get up to speed

Sure, but just like in F1, street races aren't that great for open-wheelers.

While Monaco was the inspiration for the modern day street races, I would say street courses are more apart of Indycar's DNA over the past 40 years or so... Long Beach, Detroit, Toronto, St Pete, now Arlington.
F1's street races, Baku, Singapore, Vegas lack the same history.
Indycar on street races much more visceral and challenging as the circuits arent as sterilized + no power steering- a real test of driving ability and balls

Well, if Buxton says it....
Certainly not a yes man carnival barker.

I have a feeling if anyone could come in and compete it would be Max

he'd have to get used to wrestling an 1,800 lb car with 900+ hp and no power steering on a bumpy street circuit. I'm sure if he had a good testime programme he could adapt rather nicely, but I don't think he'd finish top 10 in his debut race

I think if Max expressed interest in driving an INDYCAR a team would find a seat for him. Would be the most viewed race of the season

It wouldn't beat the Indy 500 TV rating which gets a similar number to the Masters...probably would be a good TV rating though

I don’t know if I would be against Max. He has driven other types of cars and won.

Agree, he won his first GTD race in the ferrari

in GDT you are racing against Gentleman drivers, retirees from single seaters or guys who were not good enough to hack it in GTP or Indycar or F1
In Indycar you are up against a field where the top 10 -15 are good enough to be in F1 , in a car with none of the driver aids you are accustomed to in F1, on more austere and natural racing surfaces compared to overly manicured and sanitized F1 style circuits.
I think Max, with a full month of May, could be competitive in the Indy 500, maybe with similar results to Kyle Larson in his first few tries.

The best or one of the best?
Posted on 3/13/26 at 5:48 pm to fightin tigers
I think it’s a coin flip between him and max.
He was faster than Oscar when he had limited f1 testing .
He’s truly an all world talent who was saddled with bad equipment in Europe , dominated super formula as a rookie and came to america as a complete unknown and finished on the podium in his third race in a Dale Coyne car (Indycar’s equivalent of a sauber )
Reigning F2 champions like Theo Pourchaire or other top F2 talents like Callum Illot , Schwartzman marcus Armstrong , mick Schumacher who were all f1 material look very ordinary in comparison
