Seeing lots of articles about drivers complaining about the starting procedure being dangerous. Drivers complaining about 50-50 split formula. Max comparing the cars to Mario Kart.

Is it true? Max to give up his simulator for a Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart installed?

frick I hope not. Go back to the “they can always start from pit lane if they’re scared” comment.

As soon as Ferrari jumped 5 spots that talk ended.

Maybe whatever changes they decide on after China will help that regen. How some drivers showed up on the grid at 0% is a team issue that needs to be solved.

The learning curve will be impressive to watch.

Ferrari says they brought up the problems with the start over a year ago and nobody wanted to make a change so they designed their car to deal with it. Now if they change Ferrari will lose their edge.

Theres nothing in there about viewership... just says the IOS app for apple tv tripled over a normal weekend.

quote:

While viewership figures are not yet out, the number of downloads of the Apple TV app during the weekend tripled compared to the usual daily average on Android devices, according to Sports Business Journal.

And remember, they will have to avg more than 1.3m viewers to be more successful than on ESPN.

Part if me thinks that if the numbers were really good we would have seen them already. They have to know instantaneous numbers with their setup.

Yup!
I’m sure there’s some aggregated sports bar viewers or something else that takes a little while to calculate normally that we might hear about soon.
But…

Agree, but hard to imagine the initial numbers would be terrible due to the promos they were running and the anticipation for a new season.

I think June/July and post-summer break will tell the true story.

The product isn't bad, it will truly be what a number of us have brought up. Does putting it behind a $13/month paywall push out the casual fan that grew soooo much in the US over the past 4-5yrs.

Depends on whether they count replays. I’m sure a lot of people didn’t stay up for the last race and even fewer are gonna be up at 2am for this next one. Does someone waking up Sunday morning and watching the race on the Apple app count?

Streaming services usually have the info for replays put in as a category.

Something like 5.4MM views and 2.3MM delayed views. Also show peak viewership and length of time.

Just looked, specific to Australia last year, it looks like ESPN had 1.1 million viewers. So that is the benchmark for Apple.

I'm still hanging in there as a -1 for Apple, my attention for F1 had started to dwindle a little, from someone that watched every FP session, quali, and each race to occasional FP sessions & quali and if I couldn't fit the race into my schedule I'd most likely just watch the replay instead of going watch the whole race I'd recorded. Putting it behind yet another subscription service that I have no interest in other than F1 hasn't really helped to reel in my attention. Maybe I'll get to a point where I can't do without but I doubt it, for now I'll stick with the highlight videos and watch whatever races they plan to air free this year, if they still plan to do so.

ETA: I really hope they publicly share the viewership numbers, I highly doubt they got close to 1.1 million for Australia.

Williams title sponsor Atlassian announced a big layoff. Imagine your company announces a big, splashy, glamorous, expensive marketing campaign sponsoring an F1 team. The top executives fly around the world to attend races and drink champagne. Then you and a bunch of your buddies are let go. I guess you gotta pay for that marketing campaign somehow.

Because Atlassian stock price has been suffering this year because of investor fears that AI will render their software obsolete, they sent an e-mail saying that they expect AI will create jobs and that fears of job loss are overblown. My view has been that Atlassian's integration of AI into their products would help companies reduce headcount, and thus AI would increase the success of Atlassian products. But I guess investors are seeing something different.

Software giant Atlassian has announced it is laying off about 10% of its workforce, or roughly 1,600 positions, and replacing its chief technology officer as it restructures to invest further in artificial intelligence.

More than 900 affected positions were involved in software research and development, a spokesperson said. Most of Atlassian’s employees work in software engineering and design, accounting for over 50% of its 13,813 full-time workforce in June 2025.

About 640 affected employees are in North America, 480 in Australia and 250 in India, with the remainder spread across Japan, the Philippines, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, according to the spokesperson.
