Good video. Seems like a gray area. Maybe not explicitly against the rules but for against the spirit. Being able to completely exhaust your battery in one smooth go like that right at the finish line could definitely change qualifying for the worse.

Losing back to back push laps would be the most likely result of this.

Longer runs to the finish like COTA/Interlagos/Baku can't be used the same way.

I know we were discussing viewership and how Apple won’t reveal, but just saw this…. Yeah, the Apple move will be bad for the US market, but F1 may have a bigger issue to deal with

quote:

Reports show severe viewership drops in traditional markets, with reports of a 43% drop in France and 49% in Spain for the Japanese GP compared to 2025.

Good. I wonder about the UK market though. And yes the Italian market may be up, but we all know why. Something to do with Antonelli and Ferrari hope.

The trash engines can’t be helping either

I still like the Apple TV because I get to watch the Sky Sports broadcast

Wife and I were in Barcelona a few years ago. We walked into an "Irish Pub" on a Sunday around lunchtime, and this place had 20+ TVs on ESPN all showing the Singapore GP.

Since the Saints were playing in London at the same time, I asked the bartender if he could change just one TV to the game. They did... and these guys freakin RIOTED. I thought they might actually kill me...

This is not the kind of place that has Apple TV or the electronics to support it. Thats 20 "viewers" gone

Apple carries F1 in America, not Barcelona. Sky sports still has the broadcast rights in most of Europe.

Yup, hence why I said that F1 may have a bigger issue on their hands.

If numbers dropped in the US bc of move to Apple paywall, thats expected. But if those drops in viewership in Europe are accurate, Formula 1 better work on their product quality quickly bc that is their bread and butter audience.

WTF is up with Alpine? Just saw them release a statement about hateful speech and stuff towards their team?

Did I miss something

I’m going to guess it’s something to do with the Argentinians.

Anytime colapinto is involved Argentinians get super crazy on social media.

They harassed/threatened Duhan? Last year a ton before he got fired and there’s an episode about it on DTS.

ETA:
quote:

The Alpine Formula 1 team has released a near-1,200-word open letter to its fans that condemns a slew of online abuse following recent crashes involving its driver Franco Colapinto, and denied claims that the team was “sabotaging” Colapinto in favour of his teammate Pierre Gasly.

Germany: Audience dropped 21%.
Italy: Grew by 36%.

Fixed.

Say something even remotely not positive about Messi and watch the Argentinian mob get to work. Like, you could say something neutral about him and you'd get death threats.

There was a tangent putting some blame on Colapinto for the Bearman accident.
