Pitting with the lead looks like a dumb idea now by Chase's team. Aero is king these days. Unless Hamlin's tires fall off a ton suddenly or caution comes out he most likely wins this.

Why didn’t the 9 team take 4 tires? They might have restarted one spot further back but I think the trade off of have 4 fresh tires vs. two fresh tires is worth it. Either don’t pit and keep the lead or take 4 tires if you’re going to pit.

Their car is good enough to do 2 IMO

Ask Denny what that paycheck for those 2 cars he owns looks like now that he doesn't have a charter. The fans want to know
Also, after races they should go interview pit crew (tire changers, jack man and gas man). Would get more honest answers.
And as I mentioned earlier this car is so hard to pass with. Old tires wins vs new tires. Amazing how bad the racing is. The only time we get racing is restarts and 2 of them per race are manufactured (stages). The wrecks usually happen within 5 laps of restarts. After that its just an advertising parade. Very little for booth to talk about. Chase might have been the only one to make a green flag pass for lead today not counting first lap after restart.

Points
If playoffs started today (this adds in reg season finishing points, example Chase would get 15 pts for first place reg season and so on)
Playoff points if season ended today: Hamlin-31, Larson-31, Bell-22, Byron-22, Elliott-21, SVG-17, Blaney-13, Briscoe-9, Cindric-8, Reddick-7, Logano-7, Chastain-6, Berry-6, Bowman-2, Wallace-2, Buescher-(-3)

SvG has one top ten on an oval, and he's going into the playoffs
Posted on 7/21/25 at 9:21 am to FightinTigersDammit
And he has 3 wins. Whats your point?
Posted on 7/21/25 at 9:27 am to MikeHoncho47
As soon as a playoff segment doesn't have a road course, he's done.
He's a hell of a driver, just not on ovals.

quote:How exactly is 23XI and FRM trying to destroy the Charter system? My understanding is that they are trying to say if they buy a charter they own it, and NASCAR can't up and decide to take it away. Also arguing that during the collective bargaining process they should be able to see all financials since NASCAR made them show them theirs. Their argument was if we play by the rules and do everything as laid out when NASCAR owns the tracks, mandates the suppliers, and reserves the right to say you can't keep that charter you paid millions for, then the teams should be getting a bigger slice of the pie, or at least know that they are getting their fair slice.
trying to destroy the Charter system
Argument as I've seen it was that the Next Gen was supposed to control costs, but all it's really done is forced all business from the teams and independent suppliers to hand selected NASCAR suppliers for whatever those guys want to charge. FRM and 23XI said we are tens/hundreds of millions into this with our partners and teams. Let's look at one another's financials and see how we can make this sustainable for the long-term. NASCAR said you're right let's discuss, we'll get together and discuss, NASCAR meets with select other owners then sends out a contract with little to no change and without discussing or disclosing financials after seeing the teams' and says sign it or lose everything.

True, but good for them. They basically found a loophole in NASCAR's dumbass system.
TBH, he's way more worthy than a guy like Harrison Burton winning on a plate track and stealing a spot.

This is why he’s not facing the criticism Harrison was.
The system is stupid. Don’t fault him one bit for doing what he’s doing. He’s got a chance to be the best road racer nascar has ever seen.

He’s only 25 points behind Josh Berry who has one win.
I don’t see anyone bitching about him getting in.
Oh wait, he won an oval, so it’s okay right?

I'm not in favor of anyone making the playoffs on one random win.
Frankly, I'm not in favor of a playoff.

Same here. I’m just tired of the fans bitching about his inclusion. Last I checked road course wins count the same as any oval. And it’s not like he backed his way into them.
He’s dog walked the field on them outside of COTA. He’s been more dominant in his wins than any other driver this year.
I’d rather the old school method. 36 races. They could redo the system and skew wins way more than they do. But the system we have isn’t going away.

Agree on 36 races.
Redo the points system, making wins more important, but keeping the value of consistency, as well.

Like the system is fine up until 10th place. It’s should steadily increase from 10th to 1st. 1st should be considerably more than 2nd.

Personally, I don't think 21-40 deserve any points.
50 points for a win, then 40, 30, etc, down to 20th place.
Maybe one point for a pole, and one for leading the most laps.
Get rid of stages, overtime, and green/white/checkers.
Acknowledge that it's ok for a race to end under caution.

quote:Agree with most of the other points, but disagree here. Growing up in and around local short track racing, you end under of a checkered flag. I also don't like yellow flag laps counting against the total.

If we are running a 50 lap feature at a short track, then we are running 50 green flag laps. Might turn 75 around the place counting caution laps, but we only count green flag laps. I understand why NASCAR can't do that for a 500 or 600 mile race, but under 100 laps at the 'small tracks', 50 laps at speedways and intermediates, and 20 at super speedways they should only count green flag laps. IMHO. Road/Street Courses let it be, but be far stricter on yellow usage.
ETA: Not opposed to a 1 lap sprint to the checkered like INDY does if the yellow comes out before the white flag.
