"Star"....always something coming from him or his team that rubs me the wrong way...

Like his quotes on Yuki before this:

“I’ve raced him for years, raced him in junior categories and beat him — and I did in F1 as well, so he can say whatever he wants,” Lawson said.

agreed, Yuki will have very little leash in the RB21. Thought he should've been the pick all along

Apparantly it’s not that uncommon for Mercedes and McLaren to share reserve drivers. Mich Schumacher has done it for both in previous seasons. I guess it makes sense for McLaren since their other reserve driver Pato Oward will be unavailable some weekends due to overlap of the F1 schedule and the Indy Schedule.

If I had to bet - Yuki is going to suffer the same problems as every other 2nd Red Bull driver and flame out. I'd really be happy to be wrong.

I saw some guy tweet that he thinks Yuki will do the same or worse than Liam in the Red Bull. I was thinking, "How can Yuki possibly do worse than qualifying P18, P20, and P20?"

Anyway, I think Yuki is in the ideal position, even better than if he got promoted in December instead of now.

1. It was widely expected that this would be Yuki's last year in the Red Bull family. While he could have raised his stock with consistently high performances in the VCARB like he has shown so far this year, the team continues to botch race strategy and ruin his results. While it's a bigger risk, there's also the potential for a bigger reward if he gets up to speed in the Red Bull.

2. If Yuki got promoted first and struggled, there would be calls to replace him with Liam. But now, there are no viable candidates to replace Yuki.

3. Liam's struggles takes a lot of heat off of Yuki, at least for a few races. He can't do worse than Liam, but he will probably do a little better at first.

4. My impression is that Honda throwing extra bags of cash at Red Bull is guaranteeing Yuki the seat for the whole year. This is huge, as Yuki now has room to breathe and get used to the car, plus upgrades over the season will (hopefully) improve drivability. Max complaining about the drivability of the car is key here. If he was just complaining about speed and not the handling, that would be bad.

Very interesting. I hadn’t heard that. I’m hoping Yuki does well and secures that second seat for the next few years.

On DTS, they make it seem like Max and Lando are pretty good friends. Lando flies with Max, etc.

Wouldn't you love to hear a conversation between Max and Lando discussing why other drivers can't seem to drive the other RB?

I wonder how open Max is about this. He doesn't seem to hold too much back, in general. I've got to think he shares his opinion with whoever is his driver friend(s).
