I liked it better when the champion was #1, his teammate was #2, and so on. Certain teams had preferred numbers, so that if a Ferrari driver wasn't the champion, their cars were #27 and #28. Mclaren were #7 and #8, Tyrrell #3 and #4, Ligier #25 and #26.
