Russell did his time at Williams for Mercedes while the rest of his F2 cohort had Mclarens, Ferraris, and Red Bulls. Now he gets a couple years at Merc and then gets dropped like a bad habit.

I prefer max go to Mercedes. I think the PU will be better and quite frankly RBR has been a mess organizationally the last couple of years. No newey and Wheatley, plus some of the engineers they’ve lost. I feel absolutely gross saying that, as Toto is not my favorite.
Max and Kimi as teammates would also be good. Give Kimi a chance to learn from the best.

In reality, that is his only choice if he wants to win more championships.
No space at Mclaren or Ferrari.
AM isn't gonna get there for a while, even with Newey and RB is turning into a shite show.
Merc took a step back the last few years, but the fundamentals are still there and with him behind the wheel, can likely get back to a consistent top 3.

I also remember it being rumored back around the beginning of the season that Red Bull was having trouble with reliability in their development of the 2026 power units, that they may find themselves in another Red Bull/Renault situation where they're down on power with crap reliability. Sounded like Merc and Honda likely have it nailed down pretty good.

IMO, like I said last year and have reiterated, Max should have jumped for this season.
He had to know that RB wasn't going to have it together and would have been good for him to have a year in the Merc prior to 2026 when they will likely be very competitive again.

I’m curious how this plays out. Supposedly Max has a clause in his contract where he can opt out if he is not top three in the championship standings by a certain point in the season. George Russel is currently in 4th place 9 points behind Max. Does George go all out to beat Max this season knowing it could cost him his own seat?

I thought he had in there about Marko or Newey leaving and he could opt out
Which was the issue last year. When Newey annoucned jumping, it triggered Max's out.

That’s why he was so calm after Kimi wrecked him lol

The exit clause around Marko leaving was removed from his contract last year. A lot of rumors about another exit clause based on his championship position but no concrete details. Some reports are if he is not in the top three at the summer break. Some say it’s top two, some say it drops to top 4 later in the season. No one seems to know other than Max and RedBull.

There may be no exit clause and this is just Toto trying to work down George's price?
Only thing we do know about Max's contract is that it goes through 2028. What sort of exit clauses exist are just fodder.

His contract exit clause has been a lot of smoke & mirrors with multiple rumors with different variations of the trigger, as of recently the prevailing rumor is Top 3 by summer split.
Another twist as of yesterday is Russell's alleged contract offer from Mercedes being a 1 year guarantee + 1 year option, which would bring Russell through 2027. Personally, I think Mercedes is just trying to keep all their options open. If they can get Max they will, if not they will still have Russell.

Exit clause or not, max will be at Merc next year if he really wants to.

B. How does Kimi learn from Max? How does that work, exactly? Max is in his car and Kimi is in his car.

Yeah, during the race, but there's so much closed door stuff that goes on with the team.

If they're on the same team, Kimi can study Max's data closely and learn from that!
It worked so well for Gasly, Albon, Perez, Lawson, and Tsunoda.

I would say Kimi is much more talented than all of them.

All right, another race is upon us. Predictions for the British GP will be locked out Thursday evening.
Last year George got pole and Lewis won the race. Williams finishing P9 (Albon) and P11 (Sargeant) seems significant as well since they had such a horrible year in general, so maybe the Williams likes Silverstone. Not sure we can glean anything else from last year's results.

Some typical English weather this weekend.
Lewis Hamilton has finished on the podium at Silverstone 12 years in a row. Can he keep it up?
