I know they’ll never go back.
Here is my points proposal.
Keep everything from 11th on back the same. 10th gets 3 more points than 11th. 9th gets 4 more than 10th. Go all the way up to 2nd. Make the winner get 20 more points than 2nd. Bring back the bonus point for lap led and most laps led. Award halfway points to top ten. Add a point for pole position and fastest lap.
Thoughts?

I like the first half. I like five points for leading the most laps. Just leading one lap by accident shouldn't earn you anything. One point for the pole, no fastest lap.
How about five points for the fastest four-tire pit stop? This is supposed to be a team sport.

NASCAR is a joke. They ended MWR for less race manipulation than this.
Also the top three drivers from this year from a performance standpoint are not in the final four. Good job.

That's why the best way to determine a champion is from season long performance, not some gimmicky playoff.

Is there a site that shows total points standings for the season? I’m curious what it would look like going into the last race and where the final 4 would be in the standings.

What Nascar also doesn't get is by trying to ensure a "Game 7" moment, they actually cheapen it. Game 7's are great because they don't happen every year. The World Series just ended this year in Game 5 and MLB hasn't had a World Series Game 7 since the 2019 World Series. If every World Series went to a Game 7, it would cheapen it.
But if Nascar is hell bent on it going down to the final race, just make it the final race and do away with the playoffs. Have a full season and then after 35 races take the top 4 and have them battle in the final race. But at least then you are guaranteeing that the 4 best drivers are in the final race.
This current playoff stuff in Nascar is a big reason why I've lost the vast majority of my interest in the sport. And I was one of those Nascar fans that watched almost every week religiously from 1994 to 2008.
At this point I'll watch the Daytona and Talladega races, the Coke 600, Bristol night race and a few races here and there prior to football season and that's it. I don't watch any of the races now once football season started. One just because football is far more important to me and two out of almost a semi boycott of the playoffs. As far as I'm concerned Nascar ends Labor Day weekend for me.
But if Nascar is hell bent on it going down to the final race, just make it the final race and do away with the playoffs. Have a full season and then after 35 races take the top 4 and have them battle in the final race. But at least then you are guaranteeing that the 4 best drivers are in the final race.

Its a joke. You have basketball courts all with exact same specs. Same for football. But in car racing the tracks are all different and every team has good and bad tracks. So having a final on one track favors certain teams.
Then you have plate races in the last 10 and those are really not racing rather trying to survive. You have no control over your destiny. Yet it determines who gets cut.
Then you have nascar decisions and they are never equal or fair.
Its fake hype. By trying to be like stick and ball sports they diminish their own sport. Do great all year and one thing out of tour control eliminates you. Its not a champion its a fake survival game run by dictators.
