Speaking of...who was the american sounding Japanese player they interviewed after the game? I only caught the last 2 innings of the game. Sounded like he plays in MLB but i didnt catch his name.

His mom is Japanese. He grew up in El Segundo.

I can honestly say this is the most pumped I've been for a baseball game since LSU/Texas national games 2009 or '11?

I don’t know what’s going on. There’s a video of Darvish speaking to TMZ in good English with a light accent, a day or so after one of the worst days he had in MLB.

But then he’s using an interpreter 2 years later

I can't tell if it's a San Diego thing, because there are a lot of interviews with the Cubs where he did interviews in English, but can't find anything with the Padres.

I don't blame guys who use interpreters when english isn't the their first. It's just not worth having the media/cancel culture public pounce on you if you said something wrong because you used the wrong word.

I'm pretty sure it's strictly for people in Japan who do not understand english. This is a world event and the folks overseas want to hear their language.

But he's been speaking with a translator since he joined the Padres.

So do most Japanese players especially the superstars. These dudes are megastars in their country and people stay up or wake up early to watch/hear from their heroes.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. I was responding to you saying he was using the translator for the WBC because it's a global event.

Mullins starting in left tonight, Turner moved up in the lineup and Anderson down to 9th. Schwarber back to DH.

I didn’t see Japans lineup. Is Darvish still starting for them?

I don’t know, he didn’t play against Cuba either.

I think I heard something very noncommittal on Talkin Baseball podcast today about it maybe being related to the Venezuela game and Altuves injury, as if maybe it’s a caution thing related to the Astros.

No, it’s ankle

But I’m fine with him being off the roster

Ok maybe that’s all they were saying.

I’m hearing that Ohtani is scheduled to start for the Angels on the 24th, so that has to mean he won’t pitch tonight.

Everybody watch the Japanese SS Genda if you like a lil glove action.

They said on MLB Network last night that he's available to close.

Believe the angels have given him the green light to pitch in one inning

That would be nuts. Trea Turner would take him yard anyway.
