And I normally tune it out but that pissed me off.

The great Robin Miller. I wish NASCAR had someone like him.
He was fantastic. A true character and always spoke honestly. They don’t make many journalists like him anymore.

P.S. I miss Dave Despain’s show Wind Tunnel that came on Speed Channel on Sunday nights.

It just bothers me that NASCAR essentially decided to run caution laps until the rain picked up so that they could end the race. I know it was never going to go the scheduled distance, but they’ve could’ve run 15-20 more laps.
I forget where it was, Daytona maybe, but they ran right up until it rained a while back and ended up having a downpour hit one end of the track and about half the field ended up wrecking.
I'm guessing they wanted to avoid that happening again when it was obvious it would rain at any minute.

There’s a podcast of him and Foyt shooting the caca for about an hour or so that is utterly classic. He had credibility with folks because he actually raced.
When Robin was dying, Randy Barnard who used to run IndyCar sent him a Gold American Express card with no limit to cover his expenses and the bill went to Barnard.

That’s true, but from my weather nerd observation I think there was more lead time on knowing where the rain was tonight than there was when that happened at Daytona last August.

Yep it was Daytona. Just last August.

Like I said, they had 10-15 laps max left. The rain was only 15 minutes out and where I'm at it was already pouring.

Bubba now out of playoffs. McDowell in. Chase 60 back
Here’s the owners points. They get extra money by being in owners points race just like F1.

So Chase gained 9 points last night
Posted on 7/10/23 at 11:55 am to SteelerBravesDawg
I think he lost 5. Last week he was 55 back from 16th now he’s 60. He got zero stage points and finished 13th. The lack of stage points hurt him. Its going to be a tall task for him to make chase. If any of the drivers between him and 16th finish ahead he loses points even if he gains over others in same spots. MM got more points and that widened the gap. He will need a win else might miss by a smidge. He needs a win anyways, to be competitive.
He could still miss yet owner is in. And technically his car owner could win owners title if he does great the last 10 races evwn he he himself isn’t eligible. I just don’t see the speed in his car yet, missing early season races hurt his chancecto develop car to his liking. He was bad yesterday and like Chicago pit strategy got him a better finish, not car.

Yeesh, I didn’t realize Chase Briscoe was that far down in the point standings. He may be heading the way of Cole Custer soon if that keeps up.

Same as Austin Dillon. He won’t be replaced though but is horrible driver.

NASCAR to test ‘lift splitter’ to improve short track races
Matt Weaver
quote:
The short track rules package being tested after next weekend’s race centers around a new splitter that intends to create lift in clean air and downforce when in traffic. It’s effectively a reverse splitter. In other words, if ordinarily, the leading car has the most downforce on the nose of their cars because they have clean air and the trailing cars suffers push behind the leader, this splitter will reverse that effect. The leader would have reversed splitter that creates lift while in clean air, essentially bogging the leader down while allowing the trailing car to compensate by reversing the splitter and creating downforce in dirty air.

Why is adding horsepower their absolute last resort to these things?
A:

They want to de-skill these cars to aid in developing a diversified field of drivers. Why? Diversity raises their ESG score & gives them federal tax breaks. So they remove the parts of the car that a more skilled driver can use as an advantage. Therefore, Throttle control=gone

Sad what Nascar is doing with zero practice. How can new teams with less money get in?
People forget but Bill Elliott used to being his home family built car to Nascar on a open trailer.
These smaller teams have no way to risk what little money they have to maybe make the race. The rich get richer. Sad. The 29 show car got more laps in before the race than any Nascar team did all weekend long.
