Another IndyCar street race on Sunday.
Unfortunately, I don't have Peacock so I won't get to watch. WTF?
Yeah it's ridiculous. Toronto is the only race outside of the US lately, so I guess they just didn't bother to work out a TV deal to broadcast it.
I expected more from Roger Penske when he bought the series, but he's not a billionaire because he's a bad at business. I guess he concluded the money saved wouldn't hurt the series.

After Simon Pagenaud's big crash during a Mid-Ohio practice:

twitter.com/IndyCaronNBC/status/1675516567478493185
he wasn't cleared to race so Conor Daly substituted for him.
Well, it's two weeks later and Pagenaud still isn't cleared to race. Apparently still lingering concussion symptoms. So for Toronto his car will be driven by Meyer Shank IMSA GTP driver Tom Blomqvist, in his IndyCar debut.
Blomqvist tested an IndyCar once, in October, at Sebring. But making his race debut on a street course is a tough gig. Especially with the terrible surface on these Toronto streets. After the 1st practice, he was 2.99 seconds off the pace, pretty big on a short course (fast time was 1:00.8s), but he wasn't last, just second to last.

Like in College Football, Chaotic Indycar is the best Indycar.
- The Cars share a common chassis but there is quite a lot of variation in terms of a Mclaren vs a Penske vs Ganassi...while the differences are more stark at Indianapolis teams are allowed to develop their own damper (shock) systems with the top teams investing multi millions into this.
Teams select between Honda or Chevy Engines.
While its not the out of control development you see in F1, its not a spec series either
- Yes, Indycar is the most competitive and best racing on the planet (outside of sprint cars). While it is harder to pass at Toronto than Indianapolis, you should expect multiple leaders and way more passing than your average F1 race. Keep in mind there is no DRS in Indycar. Instead you have "Push to Pass" which is less contrived than DRS and adds extra strategy and intrigue to a race. Whereas in F1 with DRS the leading car cannot defend, Push to Pass provides additional turbo boost to an engine. In Indycar a driver can use Push To Pass to make a move on a leading car, defend a trailing car, use the "Button" on in/out laps if they are doing an over/under cut. Its way better.
- Indycar is the oldest racing series in the world dating back to before the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. While it has gone through many iterations throughout its history, including an ugly 12 year Civil War from 1996-2008 it is the best racing series on the planet IMO. The Driving talent is on par with F1 (the top 10-15 drivers in Indycar could all challenge for points or wins in F1 if on a decent team) and is arguably the 2nd most popular global series in the world.
Don't expect it to be F1. F1 has far more superficiality and "glitz" but Indycar is a more pure experience that will leave you more satisfied at the end of the race.
Lastly, don't forget this is the series that races in the Indy 500- the worlds largest single day sporting event (by attendance), if you win the 500 you are immortalized in sporting annals. Indycar matters because its the series of the 500 and the associated 100+ years of history, tradition and heritage.

Penske is still a billionaire, but is not going to run the series with an open checkbook.
It's definitely better than the previous admin but there are still some things Indycar needs to improve upon. With that said, I am optimistic for the series' future and continued growth.
Toronto is exclusively on Peacock because in 2020 when the current NBC package was being negotiated, Toronto's future re Canada's COVID restrictions was unknown.NBC mandated if Indycar is going to have 80% of the races on network NBC, one race had to be on Peacock- Toronto was the obvious choice given its uncertain future.

Well stated. My only gripe is I want more Indy races on the calendar. I think one of the reasons its harder to grow the sport is lack of races. If they could add another 8-10 races it would garner more eyes IMO.

Same here, and I have watched every race for many years.
I could get Peacock for a few bucks, but I'm not interested in much else on it, and cancelling that kind of shite is usually a nightmare.
YouTube will likely have a good highlights post that I can watch later.

Canceling peacock isn’t too bad. I did it for the Winter Olympics. Straight forward.
With that said I’m not signing up again for just this race.

Looks like they're giving up the green alts pretty fast.

Every time they show the Turn 3 camera looking down the straight, I see Jeff Krosnoff biting it.

F1 fan here but with no race this weekend, I’ve watched every lap of this Indy Car race. I’m half arse familiar with a handful of the drivers due to the 100 days to Indy show, and I’m familiar with the Indy rules differences vs F1 but as a whole- how would y’all, who watch Indy Car consistently, rate this race so far? I’ve found it very entertaining

Id say its about average so far….. Toronto has had some heaters in the past from multiple cautions stacking the field up… lets see how the final stanza goes, but I would give it a 6 so far
Iowa next week will be great and the subsequent Nashville GP is so chaotic its a must watch
At this pt seeing Palou come through the field to win today would be incredible… hes like watching vintage Zanardi or Montoya
Glad hes not taking the Alpha Tauri seat and staying in Indycar long term

lmao to the crowds reaction to Helio binning it- They hate him in Toronto bc of the 2002 Indy 500
I went to the 2008 Toronto Race (which is a fricking awesome event). My dad and I flew our plane into the lakeside airport. Was sick . Anyways, Paul Tracy who was then in a one off race, passed Helio for like 6th and the crowd went wild.
Miss PT racing
