Yes, they are a day ahead. For perspective if you look at Japan and drew a line straight south you’d end up in Australia.
When I was in the Navy they told me the Navy could take my birthday away. Went on a Westpac (CVN-70) and while headed west we crossed the international dateline and we skipped a day. So if your birthday fell in that day you lost it. But on way back after cruise we had to do the same day twice so those who missed it got to celebrate on the 2nd same day.
I mined an opal when I was in Australia during our port call (Perth). Was a pretty cool place.

Red Bull have serious concerns about reliability this weekend. They haven't identified the issue from Saudi Arabia, but suspect it's caused by parts built and approved months ago. Things could get dicey.
