100% agree. That penalty was harsh given the circumstances of the red flag and restart.
Replied to your email. Montreal is a no-go for us this year. Seems that my wife reminded me just how much travel we already have planned for the summer and fall.

Did anyone see the new rocket power Mohawk video?

The problem with Honda is their board is hot/cold on F1. I think that’s why RBR ditched them for Ford. And if Alonso drives another Honda engine, the GP2 comment will be coming back lol.

If you haven't heard Lawrence's interview on Beyond the Grid it is worth a listen.
After the performance this year his outlook seems a lot more realistic. Very realistic about what it takes to compete.

This is some fine Italian engineering, merging gorgeous form with blistering speed. Bellissimo

The Temple of Speed is number 2 on my list after Spa and preceding Suzuka.

Sainz really got screwed in that whole situation.
Everyone was forgiven despite them causing the actual red flag. If Sainz was penalized then other should have been as well.
100%. F1 clearly loves the Alonso story this year so they are going to swing everything in his favor.

Honda's wishy-washy commitment to F1 has got to be very aggravating to the teams.

My take on them talking to Aston Martin is that it's a big endorsement of Lawrence Stroll's commitment and decision-making.
Honda's reputation is generally that they are not a forgive-and-forget organization, but maybe they figure Alonso's at the end of his career and won't be around in 2026.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone post this site before, so I will mention racingcircuits.info. They list every track in the world and show each historical configuration. Plus they discuss the history of the track. It's a pretty impressive effort. Here's Monza:
racingcircuits.info/europe/italy/monza.html
Looks like they introduced Variante Ascari in 1972, and the first versions of the first two chicanes in 1976.
Not sure about other sims, but the Automobilista sims (Reiza) have some nice historical variants of tracks.

Good article on why Michelin is not currently interested in returning to F1. Michelin is the best in the business, and this a valid criticism of F1's priorities. IMO Pirelli sucks, so for them to be the tire supplier to F1 instead of Michelin or Bridgestone is a sad commentary on the tire rules.

One of the great periods of F1 was when we had the tire wars between Michelin and Bridgestone. Another way to improve the show without a sole supplier being forced to create artificially degrading tires is to re-introduce refueling.

All of this. Every single bit. And bring back V10s.

Seems the only options are to have tires that degrade or bring back refueling.

I know F1 is all about having net zero emissions by 2030.
What hurts the environment more? Refueling a car with specialized racing fuel or changing a shite ton of tires?

Who cares? Its 20 cars racing for a few hours every 3 weeks
Posted on 4/19/23 at 5:08 pm to UncleFestersLegs
I agree. I am trying to figure out which option is, in fact, more harmful to the environment - refueling mid-race or constantly changing tires.

Well, the tires get 'recycled' for whatever that is worth.
Probably a push on transportation of fuel and tires. Probably a push again on energy on heating tires vs cooling fuel.
I like refueling because it could possibly solve some of these "end under yellow" and offers endless strategy options when combined with the current tire lineup.
Going to a tire competition again with the limited amount of testing/money available doesn't really seem appealing. Whatever manufacturer gets it right will be really hard to catch.
