I will admit I have almost given up on the series and only watch races such as this but looking at those stands tonight was pretty sad. I remember when every Bristol race had a waiting list for tickets and you had to pay a pretty penny on the secondary market. Now they can’t even get it half full.
I agree the stands were empty but it was also a night race on Easter Sunday that was dealing with rain the whole time. I understand why they werent filled but attendance has seemed up at a few of the other races Ive watched. Its still not what it was, but it may be improving. As other users have pointed out so many drivers are bland today which is why it is fun to see an old personality like Shrub win today. He is the villain and has always relished that.

I believe NASCAR is still in the mindset that they need to be at tracks that seat 80,000 plus people. In the early 2000s, a lot of tracks increased capacity but it seems that increased only paid off for a few year and now a lot of these tracks only look half full. Only a handful of tracks on the schedule looks like they can consistently have sellouts or near 90% full capacity.

I still don't get this decision, at all. It should have been Truck race Friday night, Cup race Saturday night.
Even if it weren't Easter, why have a Cup race on a Sunday night at all? That's only acceptable when the next day is a holiday like the Coca-Cola 600 on the Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend.

Agree. I don’t get racing on Easter Sunday but I really don’t get why they scheduled it for 7 pm

That and the Southern 500

I do not know where to have a dirt race though. Maybe Eldora? Or at some of larger dirt tracks in Midwest?
I think the only dirt tracks that would meet NASCAR’s requirements for media facilities are Eldora, Knoxville, and Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. Lucas Oil is a 3/8 mile and it’s a real nice place and they have good shows there. Eldora and Knoxville are fine and if you are into dirt racing they are places you have to get to at least once in your life. Now, if you want to see an insanely good dirt late model event then you go to the Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois.
The one place that would be fascinating to see these cars would be at the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas. Stupid fast high banked half mile but I don’t think they meet NASCAR’s minimum requirements. There are probably in excess of 100 dirt tracks in the US that would put on a better show than what Bristol can do. The problem is some don’t have the seating capacity, others would be a pain to get to, and others just don’t have the infrastructure for the media contingent that would show up.

NASCAR says that Saturday's Truck race at Bristol dirt was the most-watched Truck race at that venue of all time, dating back to the inaugural 1995 campaign. ? The race earned 1.167 million viewers on FS1.

Bristol Motor Speedway confirms that it's preparing to hold a spring night race on dirt again in 2023.

Gimmicks won't last long

Disagree on it being a gimmick.
It was actually a really good race when it was under green, especially late.

NASCAR Cup Series races have averaged 4.76 million viewers on Fox Sports so far this season, up 17% from the first eight races last year (4.09M). Every FOX race that can be compared to last year has posted an increase in ratings and viewership; the lone race on FS1 (Martinsville) declined. All three major racing series — NASCAR, F1 and IndyCar — are up double-digits to start their respective seasons, with NASCAR easily the most-watched of the three.
Sunday’s Bristol Dirt Race averaged a 2.2 rating and 4.01 million viewers on FOX, marking the largest audience for the race since 2016 (5.46M). Keep in mind it was only the second edition of the race to be run as scheduled over that span, with the other — 2019 — airing on FS1. Last year’s race, which was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to rain, averaged a 1.8 and 3.11 million.*

Yeah NASCAR probably needs to relax those inspection rules a little this w/e. It's gonna be in the mid 80's there on Sunday.
@ the crew members using umbrellas to keep the sun off. Whatever works.

Jeffrey Earnhardt driving the 3 car in the Xfinity Series race at Talladega puts it on the pole! Larry Mac as the crew chief.

He finally got put in some good equipment. I always wondered why Jr never threw him a bone on the equipment side. If Jeffery would shave his beard he would look like Kerry.

Which means he looks just like his grandfather, b/c Kerry is a spitting image of Sr.

That was my point. Kerry looked and sounded just like Dale, Sr. Good to see Jeffery get in some good equipment.
